Andréa is now on Broadway as the saucy Daniela in the critically acclaimed production of In The Heights.

She received the Drama Desk Award for her portrayal of the role Off-Broadway last season.

"IN THE HEIGHTS" IS NOW PLAYING ON BROADWAY!!!

IN THE HEIGHTS is a new musical about three days in the life of Washington Heights, a vibrant and tight knit community at the top of the island of Manhattan. It’s a place where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open, and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music. Find out what it takes to make a living, what it costs to have a dream, and what it means to be home.

"A singing mural of Latin-American life with an INFECTIOUS SCORE, JOYOUS CHOREOGRAPHY and the inspiriting flavor of a morning pick-me-up on a warm summer day. YOU CAN’T TAKE YOUR EYES OFF THE PERFORMERS, AND YOU WON’T WANT TO."
-Charles Isherwood, The New York Times

About Andréa:

Andréa began her career touring the opera houses of Europe as Maria in West Side Story when she was 18 years old. She has appeared on Broadway as Belle in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, as Vicki Nichols in The Full Monty, and has sung concerts at Carnegie Hall, and other symphonic halls around the country, but theatre audiences will know her best for her performance in the original company of Jason Robert Brown’s critically acclaimed Songs for A New World.

Last season, she was seen Off- Broadway as the saucy Daniela in the critically acclaimed production of In The Heights. She received the Drama Desk Award and will be seen at the Richard Rodgers theater in the Broadway transfer of this runaway hit musical.

Andréa portrayed Lucille Frank in the national tour of Parade, directed by Harold Prince, for which she received a National Broadway Award nomination for Best Actress. She also created the role of Celeste in Stephen Sondheim’s Saturday Night at Second Stage. Regionally, Andréa was nominated for the prestigious Joseph Jefferson Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical for her portrayal of Dot in Sunday in the Park with George at Chicago Shakespeare Theater. A versatile actress, Andréa has played a variety of roles across this country ranging from Eva Peron in Evita to Laurey in Oklahoma! Other regional credits include Marta in Company and Mary in Jesus Christ Superstar and recently Manuela, (the Judy Garland role) in the stage premiere of Cole Porter’s The Pirate. Television credits include Law & Order: SVU as well as the animated series Wonderpets.

Andréa’s debut solo album: Andréa Burns- A Deeper Shade of Red is available at amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com, and www.psclassics.com. Andréa can also be heard on the original cast recordings of Songs for A New World, Saturday Night, Shine, Broadway Bound, The Broadway Musicals of 1953, and It’s Only Life.

Andréa has recently diversified her talents by breaking into the dance music scene as a songwriter and vocalist. She can be heard on Femme Fatale: Divas of Dance Music as well as on her own dance single she co-wrote with her brother, Mike: 100 Stories.

Reviews:

R.EVOLUCION LATINA

Nov 13 2008 3:07 AM

R.Evolución Latina will be hosting:

A Conversation with Quiara Alegria Hudes on November 17th at 6:30pm at Teatro SEA (107 Suffolk Street, 2nd floor).

This will be a conversational symposium celebrating the creative
process of a writer through the story telling from Puerto Rican writer, Quiara Alegria Hudes, who wrote the book for the Tony Award Winning Musical, In the Heights. This conversational symposium will focus on how story telling is developed, shaped and affected by collaboration, mission and the responsibility of giving real Latino work to our Hispanic artists in the NY industry.

This event is perfect for aspiring writers and performing artists to attend, and finally have the opportunity to ask those questions they feel are always left unanswered.
