   About Andrea Overturf
Washington native Andrea Overturf is a musician with a dual career: equally adept at both the English Horn and the Oboe, she is forging a reputation in the classical music world for her skill with both instruments. Ms Overturf made her professional solo debut with the Seattle Symphony at age 17. Praised by the Seattle Post-Intelligencer for her “beautifully phrased, lyrical lines,” Ms. Overturf is currently a member of the Florida Orchestra, where she performs on the English Horn. In addition to her concert schedule with The Florida Orchestra, she is scheduled in the 2008-9 season for solo recitals in Taiwan and New York City. Ms. Overturf is also currently recording rarely performed solo oboe works in collaboration with the Grammy-nominated producer, Phillip A. Peterson of the House of Breaking Glass Studios in Seattle, WA. As a soloist, Ms. Overturf has performed with the Seattle Symphony, The Rochester Philharmonic, Eastside Symphony (Bellevue, WA) and the Eastman Wind Orchestra. Recital performances include Juilliard’s Paul Hall, the Eastman School of Music’s Kilbourn Hall, the First United Methodist Church of Bellevue (WA), and the Denny Park Lutheran Church (Seattle, WA). Summer festival appearances include solo appearances with the Aspen Music Festival Band and Aspen Camerata Chamber Orchestra at the Aspen Music Festival and with the Marrowstone Concert Orchestra at the Marrowstone Music Festival. On the radio she has also been heard live from the Kennedy Center as a guest performer on NPR’s “From the Top.” Andrea Overturf has been awarded a number of fellowships to some of the leading summer music festivals around the country. Recently, she spent two consecutive summers as an Oboe Fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center additionally receiving the Ralph Gomberg Award and Mickey L. Hooten Award for her musical excellence, professionalism, and exceptional artistry. She also was awarded an Oboe Fellowship to the National Repertory Orchestra (Breckenridge, CO). At age 18 she was awarded a three-year English Horn fellowship to the Aspen Music Festival, making her the youngest wind player ever to be granted an orchestral fellowship to the school. On the competition circuit, Andrea Overturf has won several awards with her musical depth and masterful technique of the oboe, including the second prize in the 2007 International Double Reed Society Gillet-Fox Solo Oboe Competition; the Takasaki Arts College President’s Prize (the Nyiregyhazi Award) at the 1999 Takasaki International Arts Competition in Japan, and the 2000 Marrowstone Music Festival Concerto Competition. Originally from Seattle, Washington, Ms. Overturf is currently the first oboist to be invited into the Juilliard School's soloist-intensive Artist Diploma Program. From 1998 through 2002, Ms. Overturf played English Horn with the Seattle Youth Symphony. In 2001, Ms. Overturf performed live on National Public Radio as a soloist on From The Top with host Christopher O’Riley at Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. Ms. Overturf earned her Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music, where she was honored with the Performer’s Certificate, the highest performance distinction awarded to undergraduates, and received her Master of Music degree from The Juilliard School of Music. Her principal teachers include Elaine Douvas, Nathan Hughes, Pedro Diaz, Richard Killmer, Richard Woodhams, and Rebecca Henderson. Currently residing in St. Petersburg, FL, she enjoys showing World Champion American Quarter Horses and painting in her free time.

1) Boodle, or boodler, was a barroom or street term for money or booty applied by the yellow press (in 1884-1886) to members of the New York Board of Aldermen who were charged with accepting bribes in connection with the granting of a franchise for a street railroad on Broadway. Thereafter, the term came into common use to signify bribery in general and particularly in municipal governments.

2) Boodle's is a London gentlemen's club, founded in 1762 at 49-51 Pall Mall, London by Lord Shelburne the future Marquess of Lansdowne and Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, and the club came to be known after the name of its head waiter Edward Boodle.

I would love to come visit you and St. Pete! How do you like your new life there? Have you noticed by the way the particular smell of the air? When I was little I always knew I was coming home when we crossed the Tampa Bay bridge and I smelled the salt sea air...I would love to smell it again.

Bye Andrea!
