   About Andreas Transø
2008 Semi-Finalist in Garrison Keillor's A Prairie Home Companion People in Their 20s Talent Show!

Andreas Transø is a modern embodiment of the old seanchaí (shanachie) tradition, a traveling musician and educator keeping alive traditional folk culture and history while captivating and entertaining his audiences, large and small, whatever and wherever the venue.

Transø was born and raised in the Ocooch Mountains of southwestern Wisconsin, a remote and beautiful area of the upper Driftless Region that was the final destination for many Irish immigrants, especially during the 19th century. Traditional Irish tunes and songs, along with a love for storytelling and good humor, was passed down to Andreas from his mother's side of the family, many of whom had emigrated from western Ireland during the time of The Famine.

Andreas' father, himself an immigrant from the Danish island of Bornholm, inspired Andreas with his keen sense of social justice, passion for history, and a love for the music of the folk revival, especially the traditional music of Scotland, England and Ireland. Much of Andreas' music was learned from his father's old records.

Now a dance caller, balladeer, accredited historian in American and Irish history, and a much applauded entertainer, Transø has performed in venues around the United States, Ireland and England, including appearances in Puerto Rico and continental Europe. He has been recognized as a strong new voice in Irish music in America by Chicago's Irish American News, and as one of America's top young talents by Garrison Keillor's A Prairie Home Companion radio show.

Transø has entertained and educated audiences at schools and festivals (including the celebrated Milwaukee Irish Fest) and at a multitude of pubs and concert venues. He often provides fitting music for family functions (weddings, wakes, funerals, etc.), and works as an event coordinator for school programs, summer camps, and festivals.

His friendly, knowledgeable and humorous nature, combined with his masterful delivery of his art, makes him a perfect fit for any event.
