When you mix acoustic rock with the soul sounds of Motown, you get Andrew Austin, the Sarnia, Ontario-raised singer/songwriter. For our purposes we will call this style Acoustic Soul Rock. You can hear how growing up nearby Detroit and studying classic rock like The Beatles have influenced both his writing and his vocal style.
In 2007, Andrew released his debut solo album, an EP entitled JUST THE WAY I FEEL. The release followed his performance as an unlikely member of the Top 22 on Canadian Idol and also marked his first shot at producing. It is this soulful, exciting collection of songs and Andrew's unmatched vocals that have impressed fans all over the country.
In addition to his own writing, recording, and touring, Andrew has worked and shared the stage with such diverse Canadian icons and contemporaries as Andy Kim, Ron Sexsmith, Ed Robertson and Steven Page, Danny Michel, Andy Stochansky, Blair Packham, Lukas Rossi, Greg Neufeld and Donovan Woods. In doing so, his mind opened to new musical influences and his style developed into a contemporary and original sound.
Andrew was selected as a "Top Pick" by CP24 for his performance during Canadian Music Week 2009. He was nominated in 2006 for "Live Band of the Year" at the Toronto Indie Music awards. In 2007, after a chance audition for Canadian Idol, Andrew became the first performer to ever play an instrument in a solo performance in the week of the Top 18. After Canadian Idol, Andrew released the award-winning (2008 Album of the Year from International Magazine Awards) JUST THE WAY I FEEL.
Throughout 2008 and the first half of 2009, Andrew toured across Canada in support of the EP and continues to play live all over the country as he prepares his next release, due later this year.
