"...Andrew..s voice is one of the most striking and emotive that I..ve ever heard. His singing brings to mind a combination of Nick Drake, Thom Yorke and Jeff Buckley; one moment quiet and gentle and the next powerful enough to raise the dead from the oceans. He moans and he soothes, his words sliding over the music like ghosts of waves on a distant shoreline, (this is indeed haunting stuff). Almost trance-like, his songs seem to carry this young man to other places and we the audience, are left behind to wonder at the spectacle of this performance. Breathtaking and without a shadow of a doubt, the best solo performance of the year by any local hero."
Alex Kendall- Cornish Live Gig Review
"...many are calling [Andrew Bate] Cornwall's very own Jeff Buckley. Praise doesn't come much higher than that.
Throw in comparisons to Thom Yorke and Nick Drake and a performance that sees him almost possessed by the power of his songs and you have a very special performer."
Lee Trewhela- Cornish Guardian
"The past few months have seen Bate's popularity soar, and it's
evident why. After gradually permeating the surface of local music,
Andrew has gone from a vocally faltering young man to an assured,
defined artist, gaining control over his spontaneous lapses into punk."
Laura Snapes- West Briton
Since first appearing two years ago, Andrew has developed remarkably, crafting an enigmatic, seemingly innocent onstage persona, and lending his songs a sweeping tonal grace
Kunstlicher
"...if Cornwall is ever to produce its own Rufus Wainwright - a songwriter who can envelope you entirely in his own colourful world - then it is likely to be Andrew Bate."
Lee Trewhela- West Briton
On Pathway to the Red Sun
"New musical Director 20 year old Andrew Bate, has created a fabulous soundtrack for Pathway; becoming an integral part of the show by performing live on stage as the story unfolds."
"...Musical director Andrew Bate is the backstage star of the show with his excellent instrumental and vocal images created from an original score
"...Special mention to Andrew Bate whose exciting live soundtrack evokes Phillip Glass, Rufus Wainwright and Brian Eno."
"The musical ability of the young man who played guitar and keyboard throughout the performance was completely in harmony with this show and I applaud his ability to pick the perfect note out of the air each time he sang."
