Andrew Crandall- Guitar, Bass guitar, Piano, Vocals
Influences
The Cure, The The, Nick Cave, R.E.M., David Wilcox, HIM, Metallica, The White Stripes, Pink Floyd, The Killers, Billy Joel, Keith Green, and Mad at the World.
At the age of 14, took piano lessons which quickly led to learning guitar. In the days of the "shredding 80's" where everyone trying to be the next Eddie Van Halen, I was in high school focusing on my writing.
In the 90's, my college years, I played for a couple heavy metal and Punk cover bands. I have never been the most technical musician, but I developed a love for rhythms and finding the emotional core of a song.
Later on, a good friend of mine convinced me to pursue a professional career in music, thus transformed into my first demo. A simple folky-love song recorded on a cassette 4-track and sent to a variety of different independent record labels. But being in young in my craft, I was rejected. But that didn't stop me. I went on to write more songs and began to pull from a wide range of influences from the Cure to Metallica. Plus I performed a couple of my songs on an independent stage at the Christian Music Festival called "Cornerstone"
Independently I gave away five demo "Albums". Done one my personal four track(And they sound like it.) At that point I didn't care about the money or fame. I enjoyed the writing process.
Also I had gotten involved with a couple of different church bands that expanded my horizon and ability as musician(picking up bass guitar). I learned to play a variety of different styles from Alternative, Hip-Hop, Gospel and blues.
In the late 90's, I had become burnt out with the music scene and put it down for a time and investigated the movie/film industry. Later I produced a couple small independent projects(music videos, short films and movie trailers). But the music bug came back with a force. So I wrote and recorded a concept album called, "Lonely Planet", a series of songs that dealt with people dealing with their lonely lives. I recorded it on my own equipment and gave it away to a couple close friends.
About three years ago, I moved to Los Angeles,CA. I play music for two churches and I am currently working on a couple movie projects along witha new set of songs for a new "demo" album.
I consider myself the "independent underdog", because until now I was doing all of this on my own. No one seemed to think that I would make it, but I am slowly proving them wrong.
