I live in Southwest New Mexico, spending much of my time learning and living some of the old ways of direct contact with the earth and my relations around me. I make my living playing music, writing songs, and working with kids through music and Capoeira, a Brazilian movement/musical art.
My music has been highly influenced by my travels and experiences living in various parts of the world. I started playing guitar at age 22, and was initially drawn to Brazilian music, which I learned to play and sing. Other early musical interests were Flamenco, African music, and Classical Indian Music.
The world music band Compás was born in 2003, featuring dance music from Brazil, Africa, Cuba and Latin America, and the Middle East, with me singing most of the vocals and playing rhythm guitar in the band.
A year after Compás started, I began playing solo as well, initially specializing in Brazilian Bossa Nova, MPB, and other Latin troubador music. In the last few years, me songwriting has come to the forefront, with over 60 new songs being born, many of them now available on one of my three solo CDs.
Writing and performing as a Singer Songwriter has been my main focus lately, though just in the last month, the band Compás has also gotten back together to get people moving once again!
