Andrew Dickeson is undeniably one of Australia's leading Jazz Drummer's.
He holds down a busy schedule as he is currently the Principal Lecturer of Jazz Drums at the University of Sydney Conservatorium of Music, at the same time being one of the country's most sought after jazz drummer's , with regular gigs all over the country and overseas.
Andrew has not only played the with the greats, but has studied with the some of the finest musicians in the world:
The early ninties saw him studying in New York City with :
-Arthur Taylor ( jazz legand and band leader to "Taylor's Wailers" also assocoiated with Coltrane, Miles, Bud Powell, Sonny Rollins etc )
-Vernel Fournier ( Ahmad Jamal, Charlie Parker etc )
and
-Kenny Washington ( leading jazz drummer educator and historian )
Whilst in New York Andrew Dickeson was the only Non-American Finalist in the 1991 Thelonious Monk Institute International Jazz Drum Competition- The world’s most significant and prestigious Jazz competition. This was held at the Lincoln Centre in New York and was judged by Billy Higgins, Jack DeJohnette, Jeff Watts, Alan Dawson, Ed Shaughnessy, Roy Haynes and Dave Weckl.
