Wide variety of influences in many styles including Larry Carlton, Robben Ford, Eric Clapton, Pat Metheny, Richie Blackmore, Oscar Peterson, Charlie Parker and Scott Henderson.
Attended Musicians Institute in California in 1988-89.
During this intensive year Andrew augmented his experience in many styles and performance situations while allowing him to specialise in improvisation.
He achieved the highest certificate awarded by Musicians Institute.
In 1993 Andrew studied composing for Film and Television through Griffith University.
He maintains a regular daily study routine on guitar that encompasses many facets, concepts and styles.
Andrew completed a Bachelor of Popular Music degree through the Queensland Conservatorium of Music in 2001 and received an Award for Academic Excellence and was invited to be a member of the Golden Key National Honours Society as recognition of his achievements. This full-time study program was completed while maintaining a full teaching workload.
The history and function of popular music within society and coding techniques and practices used by popular musicians/composers in popular music production are of particular interest. The uses and functions of music in films is also a continued area of interest.
Andrew was the guitarist in the very successful Gold Coast band “Nightflight”.
During his five years with “Nightflight” he was able to hone his composing, arranging, programming and playing skills.
He has experience in solo guitar performance and has a broad repertoire.
Since 1994 Andrew has been a freelance guitarist working with and supporting many well known Australian and international artists including Petula Clark, The Platters, Graham Connors, Grace Knight, Anthony Warlow, Tina Arena, Rick Price, Julie Anthony, The Ten Tenors, Geoff Harvey, Venetta Fields, Doug Parkinson, Tommy Emmanuel, Don Burrows and James Morrison.
Andrew has worked with the Queensland Symphony and Queensland Philharmonic orchestras and performed with members of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.
He has been ‘first call’ guitarist for the Lord Mayors Christmas Carols TV special for the past 8 years.
He has been pit guitarist in a number of musicals including ‘Fame’, ‘Les Miserables’ and ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’.
He has taught guitar for 30 years and is in demand as both teacher and performer.
