Finalist in the 1999 GFA International Guitar Competition in Charleston, South Carolina, Andrew Hull made his New York debut in 1999. He is considered one of the finest guitarists of his generation and is praised for his magnificent tremelo and blazing scales.
A California native, Andrew began studying the guitar at age six and made his concert debut at age nine.
In 2000, the United States government awarded Andrew a Fulbright grant to study in Montevideo, Uruguay. The scholarship covered advanced studies with the world-renowned guitar pedagogue Abel Carlevaro, a former student of Andres Segovia and the teacher of guitar greats like Eduardo Fernandes and Alvaro Pierri.
Since returning from Uruguay, Andrew has performed at some of the biggest guitar festivals in the United States including two performances at the Guitar Foundation of America festival and performances at the California Guitar Panorama. His first recording, Introduction was released in 2000 and includes works by Barrios, Turina and Tarrega. Several noted composers, including Evan Hirschelman, Gyan Riley and BMI Young Composer's winner Justin Rubin have written pieces for Mr. Hull.
In the Fall of 2007, Andrew will release his second CD which will include a recording of the Sonata para guitara by Antonio Jose as well as works by Barrios, Bach and several new compositions by Mr. Hull.
A noted reviewer, Andrew also edits the online guitar journal www.rosewoodreview.com. Between writing, performing and composing, he maintains a busy schedule while living in the Los Angeles area. Andrew performs exclusively on Brian Dunn guitars.
