ARTIST BIOGRAPHY: ANDREW MARTINET
Raised in a christian home, Andrew Martinet came to know the truth at a very young age.
Being raised middle-class, Andrew attended Haines City High School, a pre-dominantly black school. The first pep rally in this freshman year, he sat in amazement watching the GQ Steppers get everything started. The GQ Steppers were a club that danced, stomped and brought the hip-hop flavor to every atmosphere. No more than a month later, Andrew was practicing with the best step team in the state. Being the first and only whiteboy a part of GQ, which stands for genuine quality, he heard his fair share of criticism and laughter. During practice he was often the last person to get the step down, he had rhythm it just took longer to find it. Growing closer to everyone and not just at practice, he was falling in love with the entire culture they would show him on a daily basis.
A couple years later, a junior in high school ,English was his favorite subject. Writing poetry with different patterns such as haiku, sonnet, narrative and his absolute favorite, free verse, the class was an easy A. Being a natural with words, his passion for hip hop, the rapper inside was born.
Loving the dirty south style of rap and the vibe it would get him in, he didn't agree on what they represented. At that moment in time, he wasn't ready to go against the world, it was easier to ride the current. He started recording songs he wrote with his friend and together they formed East Polk County Boys. They had one local song every high school kid in the area knew.
A year passed by, the two friends grew up and grew apart. Andrew still recorded songs and had moved up from his friends bedroom to actual studio known as Kurb City. He took on the name of 863 Cracker and began performing at every venue that he could.
One show at Lake City in early 2005 he was performing as the crowd was vibing and acting aggressively. His song wasn't all bad but wasn't all good either. The atmosphere was dark and smokey and he realized he became a rapper that he hated.
Retreating to his home one weekend he wanted his brother to listen to his songs. Michael basically told him his music was garbage and asked him probably the most reality check questions he had ever heard. "Why are you doing this music?Are you trying to please the crowd or God?" Stunned to silence, Andrew knew he needed to change.
Never liking Christian Rap but liking what they represented, and loving the dirty south rap and hated what they represented, he finally knew what he was born to do.
In the summer of 2005, he told his producer that he wanted to keep the same sound just his lyrics would be positive. His new style would be a southern crunk christian rapper. For the next six months, he spent his time writing and recording. On Dec 7, 2005 he had his first show as Andrew Martinet, Your Jesus Christ Representative. He's been doing shows all across Florida ever since. Slowly making the Jesus Christ Crews presence known.
