Andrew Petersen is a singer/songwriter from Brisbane, Australia. Best known as the inspired frontman for long-time Australian favourites Shutterspeed, Andrew has finally completed his new solo album, entitled "The Universe, And Its Sense Of Humour". He asked himself the following questions.
What style of music do you play? I suppose singer/songwriter is a
term that could apply. It's got definite country flavours but it's not a
country record, it's got pop sensibilities but it's not a pop record. It's
music with a melodic heart. It's music with humour and passion. It's
Saturday night and Sunday morning. It's music for people with
impeccable taste. People like you...
What do you like about performing? Lots of things - the rider, the
adrenalin and immediacy of it all, the rider, watching and helping a song
evolve, the rider, making a racket with friends, and the (PLEASE
GOD LET THERE BE A) rider.
Tell us about your new CD? It's called 'The Universe and Its Sense of
Humour'. It's a record for lovers, for winners, for losers, for Michael
Jackson and Farrah Fawcett - for everyone that's been touched by the
joys and sorrows of life's rich pageant. I'm proud of it, I'm proud of me
and I'm proud of you for thinking that it's a bargain - one that will
easily get you back into your partner’s goodbooks...or help you find you
a partner if you're without one! It'll make all the other records in your
collection happier for its mere presence, though they may start to
become a bit self consciousness about their own inadequecies. To cut a
long story short, it was made over the course of about two years and it's
a damn fine collection of songs.
Who are your musical influences? Too many to mention so I'll just
mention a few. The British songwriter Paul Weller has been a source of
inspiration for ages as has Randy Newman, the Beatles, R.E.M. and
American soul music from the 60's. I could go on (and I often do) but
that'll do.
How long have you been writing and performing music? Too long to
still be having to carry my own guitar to shows.
