ANDREW WASSON's BIO...
I first started playing guitar at age 8 and began playing in front of audiences when I was around 11. After studying with a number of guitar teachers I enrolled at the Lenny Breau School of Music with teacher, "Chet Breau," (son of the late, great jazz guitarist Lenny Breau). Chet was the one who really encouraged me to move out to Los Angeles and attend the school which he studied at, (G.I.T.).
In 1990, I moved out to Los Angeles, CA. U.S.A. to study at Hollywood's, "Guitar Institute of Technology." The teachers there were absolutely amazing to hang-out with; Steve Dudas (guitarist for Helen Reddy and Linda Ronstadt), Norman Brown (2002 Grammy winner for best pop instrumental) and Richard Smith (guitarist for Kenny G.)... just to name a few of the dozens of great teachers working there. I completed G.I.T.’s Professional Guitar Player Program and was nominated for vocational honours.
In 1994, I founded my own music institute, Creative Guitar Studio, in Winnipeg, MB. Canada. Creative Guitar Studio has become extremely well known to local guitar players as a very progressive and well organized guitar studio. I picked a core group of instructors who are each professional working musicians and that I personally believe are second to none. Countless students/graduates from the studio have gone on to achieve fantastic success in the music business working in the biz as; music teachers, recording artists and performing artists touring the world!
I teach and play live to earn my living as a guitarist. I have had the chance to work with several fantastic local musicians such as; The Eli Herscovitch Big Band, Rockalypso, The Glenn Williams Band, Tony DesMarteau and CBC Radio.. to list a few. After years of shows with various groups playing rock, funk, pop, country, blues, reggae, calypso and latin music, I began to lean more toward smooth jazz guitar playing than any other style. I like the strong melody and more complex harmony that is a part of that style. Plus it allows me the opportunity to fuse a lot of styles together to create compositions that I find fun and interesting to write.
Also, I have to plug some merchandise... I've written seven books on guitar instruction and guitar technique, and I've been the editor of two others for two excellent local musicians; "Greg Lowe," and, "Barry G. Player." These books are for sale through the Creative Guitar Studio web-site, or from the author's directly. So please visit one of our web-sites if you're interested in any of our guitar instructional books. Thanks for dropping by my MySpace page and for thanks taking the time to read all this info! Bye for now.
