"From a broadcaster's perspective, authenticity and integrity are the core qualities that make for an all round satisfying programme - Andy Hickie certainly fullfilled these needs. An enlightened performer." - Stan Ambrose, BBC Radio Merseyside Folkscene since 1962.
'The Other Man' Video
Andy Hickie is a roaming singer songwriter from the mountains of North Wales.
After ‘working his soul dry’ to buy a camper van, Andy’s master plan is well into effect – to keep on moving, searching for enlightenment and inspiration along the way…
For the past year and a half he has followed the trail blazed by troubadours like Martin Carthy and Bert Jansch, travelling around the major cities and towns of Ireland, England and Wales, gigging, busking, collecting stories and sharing his songs and music the old fashioned way.
His desire to reach more people with his music led Andy to Wrexham, North Wales, to record his debut e.p “The Other Man” and also to the conception of
“The Merry Maidens” representatives from many fine bands on the Wrexham and North Wales scene who you can see ably backing Andy at the full band live shows.
Andy embarked on a solo UK tour throughout the Spring of 08 living out on the road in his trusty camper van 'Dean'. The Summer brought a string of festival appearances and good times with The Merry Maidens which included Glastonbury Festival through Q magazine’s ‘Glastonbury New Talent’ competition. The Winter brought hibernation in the hills for Andy, listening to old folk records and dreaming up plans and great times to come in 09.
Now with the flowering of snow drops and the cries of baby lams it can only mean one thing. Natures cycle has brought us back to Spring again. Andy and Dean are once again ready for the road with plans of ramblin' the hidden valleys of Wales, South Coast of Britain, Ireland, Scottland and Spain.
remember….......
THE ROAD TO HAPPINESS LEADS NOWHERE,
HAPPINESS IS THE ROAD. X
