Andy Macintyre & his band, The Primal Groove are a Blues/Rock power trio from the "Live Music Capital of The World", Austin, Texas. Andy is gathering a tremendous buzz around Texas where his band has been in high demand. Andy's intense guitar playing, soulful voice and songwriting has led him to become a fixture of the Texas blues scene. 2009 looks to find his band expanding into more of the U.S. states and Europe.
Growing up in Chicago, Andy honed his musical tastes and style on the acoustic and electric guitar. (Interesting note: Andy is a natural lefty, but plays right-handed.) Completely self-taught, Andy learned entire albums of Blues/Rock and Pop/Funk. As a teenager Andy moved to Austin and found many amazing opportunities in the local music scene. After three years and two albums with local famed Indie band, Dorkstar, he decided to step out and commit full-time to his own music with The Primal Groove.
Andy released his first solo, full-length album, "Set Me Free" in May of 2007. Most exciting for Andy was working with Sound Engineer, Ben Blank, a man with nine gold records under his belt. (see www.benblankmedia.com) Andy is also set to enter the studio early this year to begin recording his next album.
In 2008 The Primal Groove played three showcases in Austin during SXSW week. Two showcases for the Heart of Texas Rockfest and the other for the Austin Blues Society. Not many bands have the crossover appeal to play to a hard rock crowd one set and then pure blues fans the next. The Primal Groove has that unique appeal.
Andy released his debut album on May 4th, 2007, "Set Me Free". Available at local retailers (Waterloo Records and Cheapo discs), iTunes.com and Digstation.com (for download), CD Baby and Andy's myspace site and website. MP3's available to hear on myspace and samples on his website. Airplay on KLBJ 93.7 "Local Licks Live" w/ Loris Lowe! Airplay also on KPFT Blues radio in Houston, Texas, Electric Blues Radio360 (Internet Radio) and others.
