Born & raised in Northbrook, IL, Andy Margolis found a true gift in his ability to play the piano at age 5. He began taking standard lessons for his age, but abruptly took off, bursting into Mozart by age 7. The charming elements of Vince Guaraldi and Oscar Peterson captivated Andy and by age 9, he had switched over to JAZZ - for good. Lessons with legendary Alan Swain in Evanston, IL gave Andy the fundamentals to start gigging around town.
By age 13 Andy had discovered the true art form within jazz: improvisation. Over the next several years, Andy was a transcribing machine, focusing on not only the works of history's great pianists, but other instrumentalists and some of their finest solos. His hard work earned his trio the highest rating in the history of a National High School jazz competition - and earned himself a full scholarship to Arizona State University's Jazz Studies Program.
In Arizona, Andy quickly jumped in as the "young lion" in the local jazz scene. He was selected to perform at the 2003 IAJE Conference (International Association for Jazz Education) in Toronto. Andy was honored to host the jam session of the highly acclaimed Sedona Jazz on the Rocks Festival in 2004 & 2005. In the following years, the Andy Margolis Trio would be featured on "Good Morning Arizona", "The Mid-Day Show", and "Your Life A-Z", as well as being voted "Best Piano Trio in Arizona" by KJZZ 91.5 FM.
Lately, Andy been focusing on electronic music and film scoring while also continuing to compose and arrange for his jazz trio.
Here's hoping you won't be missing the party!
