Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, 20th Century. I'm of the belief that the greatest piece of music EVER (written down or not) is J.S. Bach's Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring. Second best is Duke Ellington's "C-Jam Blues"
Movies
Oh, you know...movies: a chance to spend two hours in a darkened room forgetting about the world. Or else, if it's on DVD or VHS, two hours in front of the TV with no commercials. How can you go wrong? But for favourites, well...The Road Warrior is one I never, EVER get tired of watching. Bend it Like Beckham was quite good, but I don't see too many knew movies. I like 70's cop shows where lots of 4-door sedans get smashed up.
Television
There's only one way to watch television: with tier-2 cable, with all the empty channels blocked out, with remote control and an older TV, one that doesn't take an eternity to switch between channels. I can decide in ONE TENTH the time it takes for a modern TV to get to a new channel whether it's worth watching. And so can most people, I'd imagine. 95 per cent of the stuff on the dial is rubbish, in my mind, but it has enough merit to hold my attention for maybe 5 - 10 seconds. That's why you need to switch quickly. And if this sounds like I'm someone who's shallow, with a short attention span, that's not the case. I'm taking the power away from the TV and into my own hands. That's what the remote control was supposed to be about anyway. When Howard Cosell comes on, you can just switch to something else, not just sit there, vacantly transfixed by the glowing light, the way people are STILL doing, thirty years later. That said, I like current affairs documentaries, a bit of sports, The Simpsons and Trailer Park Boys. And movies that happen to be on TV.
Books
Biographies of jazz musicians, books about jazz in general, books about languages, accents and dialects, Steinbeck, Joyce, Richler, Roth, Lewis, Tintin, Asterix, dictionaries, atlases, architecture and interior design books.
Heroes
This is a hard question to answer...I guess certain friends and family members have really been heroes over the years, but it seems hard to keep up these things as you get older. I guess I'll say Jesus. Jesus Christ. Someone I owe a lot to, I'd say.

I don't use MySpace much as a social networking site anymore, but mainly to keep posting the ongoing saga of the semi-autobiographical Tony Creighton, who goes to the bush at age 19 to be a treeplanter. And I figure, since it's about treeplanting, why bother using paper (which wastes trees) to print it on, when it all could exist in cyberspace?
Who I'd like to meet: My late father. Of course that's not why I'm continuing to go to MySpace...
..
yes, my Dad was taking the cyber seniors class to learn how to use the computer. He will probably take it again as he is an old dog. Sorry it took me so long to reply, I am usually on crackbook and hardly ever come on this site anymore, ;)
I like bars in general. I have been very neglectful of the myspace and have jumped ship to the facebook somewhat. Do you have a facebook? Send me a message on how things are going. Linda
Well, i kindof printed out all my blogs one day and decided i was full of shit, hehe. That and i just didn't have as much time because i changed jobs and couldn't slack as much, as these ideas tended to come to me during the day. But i don't rule out writing per se, just need to take a bit of a break. Do you think you want to try to have your book published?
thanks for stopping by Andy. Engineering an Empire has episodes about the structures built by all the major world civilizations in history. So far watched Greece and the Aztecs. Next will be watching the Persians and the Maya. Hope you are having a good week.
Likewise. I am ready for them to be over a little. Holidays that is. I have a few more gifts to get and seem to be fighting a sore throat. Enjoy your holiday.

Hi Andy thanks for stopping by my space. I took your suggestion and checked out Ennio Morricone and am impressed. Also have been enjoying music from the Andes like Los Incas etc. Good luck with your flute jamming. Hope you're having a good weekend.
