THE BOY IN THE TREE (Coming Soon 2009)
Short film 8 - 10 mins
The Boy in the Tree is a short film about people’s desires and how people strive to achieve those desires under adverse circumstances.
Bilal is sat on the edge of a branch in a tree tooking out at something in the distance. His younger brother; Ibrahim is zigzagging across the field trying to control a kite he is flying.
We find that Bilal is watching a village school in the distance. Children are sat out in the sun as a teacher slowly walks up and down the rows. To Bilal the idea of going to school is something he has only dreamt of, but has never been able to savour as his family is unable to afford the fees for him to have a proper education.
He watches the lesson, squinting to make out the teacher as she walks over to a makeshift blackboard where she begins to write out Urdu letters of the alphabet.
Bilal climbs out of the tree and as he gets to the ground he picks up a huge bag filled with facecloths. He heaves it onto his back and begins walking away as Ibrahim scuttles behind him. Bilal approaches men and women with his palm out hoping to sell the odd facecloth to sweaty well-to-doers roasting in the heat.
“Raise yourself to such heights of greatness, that before He decides your fate, God, Himself will ask you, "What is your wish?"
from Khudi (The Self) by Allama Muhammad Iqbal

I LOVE FILMS. I am a very big STANLEY KUBRICK Fan.
Stanley Kubrick stated that when you make films, you should always try make a miniature film (of two or three minutes) and figure out the mechanics. Later on the process is always the same. So if you're working on Titanic, and you've got, god knows, about 10,000 people on your set and then you've got a film that you're making with 50 people, the principals are still the same)
Battaglia di Algeri, La (1966) Dir Gillo Pontecorvo. The Battle of Algiers" is simply one of the greatest films every made. If film making can be about truth as well as fantasy, then this is the Movie for you! It combines brilliant photography, crisp direction, an intriguing plot and some very fine acting. Throw in a terrific music score, splendid editing, impressive special effects and the best example ever of docudrama style production and you have a masterpiece of film making.
Three O'Clock High (1987 dir by Phil Joanou)This has got to be one of the best kept comedy secrets of the 80's. If you can get your hands on this movie watch it lol:) I love this movie....A high school nerd, Jerry Mitchell (Siemaszko) is assigned to write a piece for the school paper about new boy Buddy Revell (Tyson), who is rumored to be a psychopathic nutcase. When Jerry accidentally touches Buddy, he says that they must fight in the parking lot at 3pm. Jerry will just about do anything to avoid the confrontation.
MAGIC 1978 Dir Sir Richard Attenborough Wow Magic is one of those creepy psychologial Horrors.Anthony Hopkins plays Corky, an earnest but failed magician who spices up his act with a ventriloquist dummy called Fats, after which he rises to almost fame. However, Fats has developed a mind of his own and wants to control his master.
As a filmmaker one of the Artists that i am visually influenced by is the great Salvador Dali (1904 1989) The Persistence of Memory (1931) is one of Dali's most famous paintings. There is something special about this Artist! www.salvadordalimuseum.org
THE VIDEO DEAD 1987 DIR ROBERT SCOTT (I think im the only SOUL in the UK THAT OWNS THE VIDEO DEAD VHS, Im sure that I am the only person EVER to have rented it since 1988.... i love this Zombie flick) An unlabelled crate from an unknown source is delivered to a house in the woods. The homeowner unwisely accepts the delivery, only to discover it contains a TV set that starts spewing giggling zombies all over the place. When a new family moves into the now-abandoned house, the son discovers the haunted television and is soon told what he needs to do to send the zombies back where they belong.
THE OMEGA MAN 1971 In 1977, the American scientist and colonel Dr. Robert Neville (Charlton Heston) is the last man on Earth. All the human race died or became mutants due to the use of biological weapons in a war. During the war, Dr. Neville was researching an experimental vaccine, using the vaccine on himself and it works, making him the last survivor of human race. The race of mutants self-calls 'The Family' and is leaded by the fanatic Matthias (Anthony Zerbe) in the middle-ages standards, without the use of any facility of the Twentieth Century
(ROAD HOUSE 1989)This was one of the first 18 cert films i ever watched in the Cinema, I was 15 at the time. Arrrhh man i love this movie.....lol:) Dalton's (Patrick Swayze)The best bouncer in the business. His nights are filled with fast action, hot music and beautiful women. It's a dirty job, but somebody's got to do it.
THE EARLY BIRD (Dir Robert Asher 1965) I remember watching Norman Wisdom Films when i was a child in the 80's. The Early Bird is one i love! LOL:) Norman is the assistant helping to run a small, old fashioned dairy which is threatened by a larger, modern organisation. Norman does his best to save the dairy (and his horse) and the usual chaos ensues.
Ying xiong HERO(2002) Director Yimou Zhang In ancient China, before the reign of the first emperor, warring factions throughout the Six Kingdoms plot to assassinate the most powerful ruler, Qin. When a minor official defeats Qin's three principal enemies, he is summoned to the palace to tell Qin the story of his surprising victory.
As it flies, it trails a coloured cloth that carries the film's numerous morals and messages which descend upon you like a soft layer of fabric. This is a film that can lift your spirits and have you laughing out in sheer joy as you gaze in wonder at the perfection of the mise-en-scene and cinematography. This is a Fantastic Film.

Ive been listening to THE FOLLOWING PEOPLE -
Sir Edward William Elgar, (1857 – 1934) was an English Romantic composer. Several of his first major orchestral works, including the Enigma Variations and the Pomp and Circumstance Marches, which were greeted with acclaim.
Elgar became self-taught in music.(He is on the BACK of a 20 Pounds British Sterling NOTE!)
Movies
I love all types of films Especially Romantic Films and Period Dramas... As I'm a bit of a Softy at heart! I love cinema. Anything to do with the 80'S also Zombie Flicks.
The Shawshank Redemption 1994 Dir Frank Darabont
For me Shawshank, has to be one of the best films made about hope. Even when everything is falling apart, and you are struggling. Keep going, Have hope, Never give up.
Andy Dufresne is a young and successful banker whose life changes drastically when he is convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife and her lover. Set in the 1940's, the film shows how Andy, with the help of his friend Red, the prison entrepreneur, turns out to be a most unconventional prisoner
Castaway directed by Robert Zemeckis 2000
Chuck Noland: We both had done the math. Kelly added it all up and... knew she had to let me go. I added it up, and knew that I had... lost her. 'cos I was never gonna get off that island. I was gonna die there, totally alone. I was gonna get sick, or get injured or something. The only choice I had, the only thing I could control was when, and how, and where it was going to happen. So... I made a rope and I went up to the summit, to hang myself. I had to test it, you know? Of course. You know me. And the weight of the log, snapped the limb of the tree, so I-I - , I couldn't even kill myself the way I wanted to. I had power over *nothing*. And that's when this feeling came over me like a warm blanket. I knew, somehow, that I had to stay alive. Somehow. I had to keep breathing. Even though there was no reason to hope. And all my logic said that I would never see this place again. So that's what I did. I stayed alive. I kept breathing. And one day my logic was proven all wrong because the tide came in, and gave me a sail. And now, here I am. I'm back. In Memphis, talking to you. I have ice in my glass... And I've lost her all over again. I'm so sad that I don't have Kelly. But I'm so grateful that she was with me on that island. And I know what I have to do now. I gotta keep breathing. Because tomorrow the sun will rise. Who knows what the tide could bring.
THE NOTEBOOK 2004
director Nick Cassavetes I think the Notebook has to be one of the best romantic films made. Great movie.
Young Noah:
My Dearest Allie. I couldn't sleep last night because I know that it's over between us. I'm not bitter anymore, because I know that what we had was real.
And if in some distant place in the future we see each other in our new lives, I'll smile at you with joy and remember how we spent the summer beneath the trees, learning from each other and growing in love.
..
That's what I hope to give to you forever. I love you. I'll be seeing you
Young Noah:
So it's not gonna be easy. It's gonna be really hard. We're gonna have to work at this every day, but I want to do that because I want you. I want all of you, for ever, you and me, every day. Will you do something for me, please? Just picture your life for me? 30 years from now, 40 years from now? What's it look like? If it's with him, go. Go! I lost you once, I think I can do it again. If I thought that's what you really wanted. But don't you take the easy way out.
..
Jeff Darling's Page 73 short film. An emotionally driven script which covers a wide range of story telling "What Love is" extraordinary, beautifully shot film. Haunting Visual cinematography. Fantastic

SALAAM BOMBAY 1988
Dir - Mira Nair
This is one the best and moving films ive seen. Its a the story of a 12-year-old street boy surviving and etching out an existence on the squalled streets of Bombay. The interactions these kids have with each other made me feel I was watching a doco. The kids in India are so much like Chipau and the others depicted in Salaam Bombay its amazing. They all have there individual lives and dreams like us all but are burdened with extreame poverty
BABEL - 2006
Director - Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu This dude Alejandro is TOP class, he is in my opinion one of the best modern film directors in the world!
Babel -Through a series of misunderstandings, interweaves the unfortunate circumstances of a Moroccan, an American, a Mexican and a Japanese family. Interlocking stories, all connected by a single gun all converge at the end and reveal a complex and tragic story of the lives of humanity around the world and how we truly aren't all that different. You have to watch this film and one of his first major movie 21 grams!
The Hitcher (1986)
Director Robert Harman.
If you get to watch this movie the Hitcher the 1986 version watch it, this is a fantastic Horror/Thriller, C.Thomas Howell & Ruger Hauer.
Advertisement A young man transporting a car to another state is stalked along the road by a cunning and relentless serial killer who eventually frames the driver for a string of murders. Chased by police and shadowed by the killer, the driver's only help comes from a truck stop waitress.
(Below) Requiem for a Dream (2000)Dir - Darren Aronofsky
Wow this is one of the most surreal and yet genuine films made this decade.
The film depicts the lives of four different people living in Brooklyn on their quest for satisfaction in life. It shows the direct and indirect effects that drugs and various addictions have on each of the individuals, and then portrays their downward spirals from the hopes of blossoming dreams into the helpless state of moral and physical decay. A very powerful and visual film not for the faint hearted.
(Below) Leaving Las Vegas 1995 - Dir Mike Figgis
This is one of my all time FAV movies ever and Mr Figgis has made one of the most powerful and genuine movies of the 90's. Dudes you got to watch this Movie. Ben Sanderson, an alcoholic Hollywood screenwriter who lost everything because of his drinking, arrives in Las Vegas to drink himself to death. There, he meets and forms an uneasy friendship and non-interference pact with prostitute Sera

JAN 2008 - Boot Polish & Waiting for Sunrise have been Acquisitioned to be preserved for long-term heritage. Which basically means it will be saved for ever At the National Archives.
The BFI National Archive is one of the world's greatest collections of film and television. The majority of the collection is British material but it also features internationally significant holdings from around the world. We also collect films which feature key British actors and the work of British directors. There is a wealth of material of every genre from silent newsreels to CinemaScope epics, from home movies to avant-garde experiments, from classic documentaries to vintage television, from advertisements to 3-D films, soap opera to football. The sheer size and diversity of the collection presents us with special challenges.
The archive contains more than 50,000 fiction films, over 100,000 non-fiction titles and around 625,000 television programmes.
As guardians of our vast and growing national film heritage we are acutely aware of the responsibility for ensuring its continued survival. We have made significant investment in new storage facilities in the last 18 months and have also upgraded our existing stores. We are proud of our achievements and believe that film and television have the power to enhance all our lives. The digital age has the potential to offer access to the Archive by greater numbers of people than ever before.

Dear Aneel Ahmad Waiting for Sunrise: The filming in Lahore was very well done. It's a very disturbing subject and some of your images are hard to take, but it's a raw and effective piece in its short length. I don't think it should be longer. It's succinct, makes it's point and I'm not sure it would work in a longer form. In short, keep going. You're a long way from getting where you want to be. I wish you well. Best, Alan Parker

It really don't matter if this guy opens my head, either. 'Cause all I wanna do is go the distance. Nobody's ever gone the distance with Creed, and if I can go that distance, you see, and that bell rings and I'm still standin'
I'm gonna know for the first time in my life, see, that I weren't just another bum from the neighbourhood.

Will: See, the sad thing about a guy like you is in 50 years you're gonna start doin some thinkin on your own and you're gonna come up with the fact that there are two certainties in life. One, don't do that. And Two, you dropped a hundred and fifty grand on a f***** education you coulda got for a dollah fifty in late charges at the public library.
Chuckie: No. No, no no no. F*** you, you don't owe it to yourself man, you owe it to me, 'cause tomorrow I'm gonna wake up and I'll be 50, and I'll still be doin' this shit. And that's all right. That's fine. I mean, you're sittin' on a winnin' lottery ticket. You're too much of a pussy to cash it in, and that's bullshit. 'Cause I'd do f*****' anything to have what you got. So would any of these f*****' guys. It'd be an insult to us if you're still here in 20 years. Hangin' around here is a f*****' waste of your time. (GOOD WILL HUNTING)
TUPAC SHAKUR, One of the main Pioneers for leading BLACK ARTISTS and HIP/HOP GANGSTER THUG LIFE CULTURE back in 1995. This IS DUE to the Social & economical deprivation within the black 'depressed' areas such as LA and New York! Not to PROMOTE violence, HATRED or Racial tension. A GENUINE TRUE ROLE MODEL!
THESIS ON - THUG LIFE BRITISH IDENTITY & CHAVS....BABY!:) by aneel ahmad. In the early 1990's The UK first experienced a wave of Gangster Rap from the US. These Rappers (such as 2pac, Ice T, Biggie Smalls, Ice cube, Dr Dre etc) utilised explicit language lyrics to express their views on social and economical deprivation within the black 'depressed' areas such as LA and New York. This was their way to communicate with the Media, and the American government on the racial tensions between White and Black people. As a teenager living in Longsight (Manchester) in the mid 1990's, I noticed that most Black & Asian people adopted this culture/music and 'Thug Life' style. I lived in one of the poorest districts in Longsight where Crime & Violence was at its peak. When HIP HOP culture arrived Minority groups felt they could relate to the issues these rappers were addressing in their music, I.e. racial differences between white and black people. These second generation youths generally came from labour backgrounds, and pretty much lived in poor inner city areas all across the UK. Growing up as a child in the 80's and youth in the 90's, most Black and Asian people experienced a high proportion of racial discrimination. This forced them to rebel and not remain victims of racial discrimination Hence; living the Thug life, Gangster. Thug Life - Gangster' firstly we need to understand what Thug life is NOT!
A)Wear a baseball cap and look menacing.
B)Scare little kids on street corners.
C)Smoke or drink all day
D)A pram pusher who has a baby by the time they are 16 or younger. (in order to claim benefits from the government)
E)No education
F)Claiming benefits from the government, so they don't have to work (as mentioned above)
G)Wear fake designer clothes to look 'cool'
H)Speak in an Ali G type of language.
I)Wear fake gold to look as if the individual has plenty of money.
J)Spend half their time in a catatonic state; due to alcohol or drug abuse.
I could probably go on all day, and I'm sure most of you could contribute to the list (above). As you have probably noticed the above comments sounds more like a 'Chav' or 'Scally' list. Over the years this 'thug life' style has been watered down with people (We now call Chav's) trying to emulate this life style. Some being White Middle Class youths. Others are under the illusion that they look cool and appear intimidating. Maybe, it's a sign of their own insecurities. What baffles me is how can someone be proud of being poor, living in a shi**y area, and are lacking a good education? thug life is usually; or posses the following
A)Education (doesn't have to be academic)
B)Educate (their kids)
C)Understands their Business & Market
D)Makes their own opportunities.
E)Accumulates, Expands.
F)Well presented, Polite, respectful.
G)Is well off and probably drives a nice car and lives in a nice house. In summary don't confuse a wannabe to Thug Life, Gangster. Why, because a real gangster doesn't want to attract attention! And probably lives next door to a well represented person in your community!

Peter Watkins (born October 29, 1935)
Is an English film and (once) television director. After studying acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, began his television and film career as an assistant producer of short TV films and commercials, and in the early 1960s was an assistant editor and director of documentaries at the BBC and turned to amateur filmmaking in the late 1950s. In the mid-60s Watkins was commissioned by BBC-TV to make two feature-length docudramas incorporating a quasi-newsreel style and nonprofessional actors. The second of these, The War Game (1965), graphically portrayed the nightmare of nuclear war and was banned from broadcast. It was subsequently released in theatres and earned a best documentary Oscar in 1966. Watkins enjoyed modest success with the commercial feature film, Privilege (1967), but has subsequently worked primarily in the documentary genre, based in various Scandanavian countries. One of his more recent films, _Resan (1988)_ , is a 873 minute (14 hours) epic that addresses such issues as the arms race and global hunger. All of his films have either been ..ary or drama presented with documentary techniques, sometimes portraying historical occurrences and sometimes possible near future events as if contemporary reporters and filmmakers were there to interview the participants. The War Game is filmed in a documentary fashion and looks at the possible effects of nuclear war on the English countryside. The film is notable for its intense power and imagery. It was later nominated for an Academy Award, as well as awarded the 1967 Best documentary Feature award in Great Britain.
Protect and Survive was the title of a series of booklets and a public information film series produced by the British government during the late 1970s and early 1980s dealing with emergency planning for a nuclear war. The phrase also referred to a wider programme of national civil defence.
The purpose of the programme was to provide members of the British public with instructions on how to protect themselves and survive a nuclear attack. If such an attack had been deemed likely by the Government during any period of international crisis, a copy of the main "Protect and Survive" booklet would have been distributed to every home in the UK whilst the films would have been transmitted on domestic television. The booklet and the films detailed a series of steps to be undertaken by the citizens of the UK to improve their chances of survival during a nuclear attack, including the recognition of attack warning, fallout warning, and all-clear signals, the preparation of a home "fallout room" (fallout shelter) and the stockpiling of food, water, and other emergency supplies. The films, narrated by the late actor Patrick Allen, were similar to the pamphlets, detailing the same instructions using voice-over narration, sound effects, and simple animation. All of the "Protect and Survive" public information films were produced by Richard Taylor Cartoons, which also created the well-known "Charley Says" films for the UK's Central Office of Information.

Just got a call from a friend, they said they lost an angel.. Shhh, I didn't tell them where you were, because I wanted to keep you forever :) Send this to all of your True Friends including me if I am one. I sent an angel to watch over you last night, but it came back. I asked, "Why?"... The angel said: "Angels don't watch over angels!" If one day you feel like crying, call me. I don't promise that I will make you laugh, but I can cry with you. If one day you want to run away, don't be afraid to call me. I don't promise to ask you to stop, but I can run with you. If one day you don't want to listen to anyone, call me. I promise to be there for you but also promise to remain quiet. But one day if you call and there is no answer, come fast to see me. Perhaps I need you. Send this to all your friends, no matter how often you talk or how close you are and send it to the person who sent it to you. Let old friends know you haven't forgotten them, and tell new friends you never will. Remember, everyone needs a friend. Twenty angels are IN Your World. Ten of them are sleeping. Nine are playing.
