Music is a passion, not an afterthought. I want to live my life that way too, as a passion rather than anything else. There's so much to be passionate about!!! (Passionate. That's a fun word. Passionate. Are you passionate about something? I hope so.)
I've always sung whenever given the opportunity. A few years back I picked up a guitar as a way to get some of the melodies floating around in my head out. And out they did tumble, faster than I could scribble them in unorganized notebooks...
As a part of the worship band at Crossroads Church of Denver in Colorado I gained extensive music experience. In addition to singing most weekends with the band, I also sang backup for varying well known artists that frequently came through. Talk about pressure! Man, alive. But, it was SO worth it. I learned to be flexible and professional and work with a team. During this time I began leading worship for the women's ministry and young adults group with my guitar. That was intimidating, but, again, worth it. I just love reaching people's hearts!
I am now leading worship at Church For Life in Santa Maria, California, and sing wherever and whenever I can. Small, intimate coffee shops... large concerts... it's all a wonderful opportunity to reach others. You can find me on the platform nearly every Sunday leading an awesome worship team. And it's not uncommon during the week to discover me playing a coffee shop or youth group or songwriter's group. I just love it. All of it. Ask me to sing, and I will!
Life may have different twists and turns, but I will continue to write and make music through all of them as long as the doors are open. God is so good to have given me this gift, and I'm going to use it as much as I can as long as I can and as PASSIONATELY as I can.
