Having fun, capoeira, learning Japanese, music, reading, sudoku, being a geek (online forums, being a wizard on Elephant MUD), heavy metal clubs, goth clubs, occasional shopping sprees, travelling everywhere, deep conversations, meeting new people, good food, junk food (crisps, especially s&v, chocolate, biscuits, cake).
I am the Music News Editor for Alternative Magazine (www.alternativemag.co.uk) and also write the Forthcoming events section, proofread the magazine, and write the occasional article or interview when I have time.
Music
Making music: I started learning the violin when I was 6, and stopped at 18 when I left home (couldn't afford lessons!). I prefer playing in an orchestra, but alone I like to play Bach. I love singing and use to have lessons/sing in a choir, but nowadays I just sing along to music I play at home, much to the abhorrence of my cat :)
Listening to music: I like many different genres, but hate to classify music and put it all into separate categories, however it is useful for moments like these, so: heavy metal, goth, 'world' music, Capoeira music (Brazilian), 80s music (of the good, not cheesy, kind), reggae, ragga.
Bands: Nine Inch Nails, Tori Amos, Flaw, Boy Hits Car, The Dresden Dolls, Manu Chao, Corvus Corax, Tanzwut, System of a Down, A Perfect Circle, Tool, The Cure, The Cruxshadows, Afro Celt Sound System, Madrugada, Ska-P, The Deftones, Joni Mitchell, Crystal Method, Das Ich, Sisters of Mercy, Queen of the Damned soundtrack, Dust Junkys, Evanescence, Faithless, Fields of the Nephilim, Foo Fighters, Fun Lovin' Criminals, Green Day, Gravity Kills, Guano Apes, HIM, Die Aertze, Xavier Naidoo, Incubus, Inkubus Sukkubus, Lacuna Coil, Killing Joke, Massive Attack, Morcheeba, Gwen Stefani, Pink, Placebo, Rage Against The Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rob Zombie, Roni Size, Rootjoose, Rosetta Stone, Skunk Anansie, Sum 41, Tricky, Ben Folds Five, Jurassic Five, hed(pe), Ben Harper, Tryo, Gérald de Palmas, Within Temptation, NERD and many more.
Generally NO chart music, dance, EBM (with some exceptions), techno, pop, cheesy music, boy/girlbands i.e. mainstream superficial candyfloss crap.
Movies
I love films. I have too many favourites to mention, but my favourite actor would be Johnny Depp. When I was little, my favourite actress was Whoopi Goldberg. Films: Shortbus, The Crow, Dead Poets' Society, From Hell, 9th Gate, La Double Vie de Veronique (Polish/French production), Donnie Darko, Spirited Away (Chihiro), Queen of the Damned, Some (South Korean), Labyrinth, The Princess Bride, Trainspotting, Miss Congeniality, The 5th Element, Shadow of a Vampire, Blade, Amelie, Lola Rennt, the Desperado trilogy, Breakfast at Tiffany's, The Big Lebowski, Bringing Out the Dead, Underworld, Edward Scissorhands, Hero, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Arahan (KR), House of the Flying Daggers, Fist of Legend, Fight Club, to name but a few.
I'm also a huge fan of Asian films. I started off on Japanese films like animes, Odishion (Audition), Battle Royale and then moved on to South Korean films, which I really like.
Television
I like documentaries and some TV series such as Battlestar Galactica, The West Wing, Dead Like Me. I have no TV reception in my London flat. I can't miss an episode of the Gilmore Girls - I'm in love with Lorelai!
Books
I used to be a book addict; I'd read 4 or 5 a week. Now I don't have time to do so, so it takes a few weeks just to finish 1 book. Usually I have a few different books going at the same time; a bad habit I'm trying to break. I like Haruki Murakami's books, but really, have too many favourites to mention. Generally speaking, I read fiction of different genres; cybr punk, fantasy, science fiction, books from/on different cultures like Japanese, French, South American, vampyric, pyschological books, etc. I don't read poetry in my spare time, but of the poets I've studied, I like Keats, Baudelaire and, of course, Edgar Allan Poe.
Transmetropolitan comics (Warren Ellis), Death 'Peachy Keen!' comics (Neil Gaiman).
Who I'd like to meet: People with the same dark, twisted sense of humour who aren't afraid to laugh, cry or live life. No evil souls; but dark/tainted souls are fine :) Open your minds from the social constraints and prejudices!
People who inspire me, give me lust for life, and get my creative juices flowing.
