What seems to be hidden from view doesn't necessarily mean we don't need it. Ania is the voice we need at this time that is not fully seen, but watch out. She is ready with over 15 years of experience singing/songwriting/performing. Some say her style is unique -all her own with soul, jazzy influences mixed with folk stylings concentrating on love and social, political issues of our time. She brings to life the soul folk music with the sweet honest vocals we yearn for today. A strummer of the guitar, she adds her acoustic sound and unique powerful voice for an irresistible combination."...my mom bought me a second hand guitar when I was 15 and it has been a wonderful relationship with the instrument ever since." Growing up in church as many artists, this is where she hones her voice and really used it. Joined a church choir called Triumphant Sound and toured around North America for a time. The interest in songwriting sprouted after she left the choir and it was used as way to channel feelings, world issues and whatever was on her mind.
Ania lived out in Alberta for some time and attained a performance diploma in jazz vocals at Grant Macewan College. While there she was busy honing into her gift of singing doing duo jazz gigs, singing back up for local artists and touring with her own band Laminar Flow who traveled extensively across western Canada including B.C. and Yellowknife opening up shows for Wide Mouth Mason and the New Meanies. In a local newspaper in Edmonton she was described as having a very commanding stage presence and a voice of a woman twice her age. They took first place in the cities Battle of the Bands and she maneuvered the band into numerous gigs such as the NEXXT festival where local artists showcased their talent. Having experienced the West in life and music, she returned to Toronto seeking new, but familiar lands to express her art. She took time to hone her skills as singer songwriter and not before long she was in demand taking on shows as a solo artist and with a band. Nominated for Best female in the Ontario Independent music Awards (OIMA) 2007, she did gigs at places like the Trane Studios, The Revival bar, St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts, opened up for spoken word artist Ursula Rucker and more. She is eager to come out with an EP, as many lovers of her music have requested.
I have been sooo busy rehearsing. The internet in the UK is horrible! LOL. Now the tour has begun and i'm having a great time. Music is still coming!!! I hope things are kickin' for you!!
Thanks for checking out my page. Unfortunatly 'The Voices' are not jamming together at the moment, but I am hoping that won't be the case in the near future. I'll keep you posted.
Hey Ania, I must say that your myspace is one of the first myspace that is bling'd out and tasteful. The music sound dope girl, well I've know that 4 a while I don't need to be your friend on myspace to tell U dat.
