It wasn't just a concert. It was an event. If you couldn't trek to Buffalo to see Ani's inaugural performance at Righteous Babe's own venue, Babeville, you can see it all on Ani's third concert DVD, Live at Babeville. Click the image for more information.
Only 5' 2" in height, Ani DiFranco has worked hard to prove that she's big in stature.
Born in Buffalo, New York, Ani was singing and playing guitar long before most of us break out of the doldrums of Kidz Bop and Bubblegum Pop to finally realize what good music actually is. As she grew older, she began touring, developing both her signature style of performance and her extremely loyal fan base. Rather than waiting for some A&R bigwig with an even bigger agenda to sign her, Ani simply created her own label, Righteous Babe Records, which has released 20 of her own studio albums as well as 10 of her wildly popular Official Bootleg Series, allowing people to experience Ani live from the comfort of their own homes.
But its not all about Ani over at Righteous Babe, as she hand-picked 12 exceptional artists to join the label and come along on the righteous ride. In addition to that, Ani has established the Righteous Babe Foundation, which has allowed her to be able to support grassroots cultural and political organizations throughout the country. Perhaps her most ambitious endeavor was taking on the task of restoring the historic Asbury Methodist Church in Buffalo which was in danger of being torn down. The church, built in 1876, has been fully restored and converted into a home for a stunning performance space, art gallery, and jazz club.
After over almost twenty years of hard work, Ani DiFranco's career has blossomed into one that is successful in the rarest forms. Ani has proved that if you shed enough blood, sweat, and tears, you really can do what you want in your own way.
This page, along with the Official Righteous Babe Records page, are the only Myspace accounts affiliated with Ani DiFranco and Righteous Babe Records. Keep in mind that Ani DiFranco does not maintain this page herself, and because there were no 14 year-old girls available, Amanda the trusty intern had no choice but to do it herself.
I can't wait to see the show tonight! It's been seven years... now a long way from home. Thank you for every moment of fufillment and uplifting over the years.
Damn girl! Your updating of "Which Side Are On?" is downright inspirational. Way to testify sister! I invite you to check out my humble offerings sometime. I'm a singer songwriter living in Northern California. Most of my songs are folk and folk rock, a lot of it political in nature. Hopefully, you'll find some of them inspirational too. I'd be very open to any feedback you might have. Happy ML King Holiday! Keep on stickin' it to the man (men)! Be well. Cap Wilhelm-Safian (obscurist of folkista)

Hey Ani. Thanks for the amazing music you keep putting forth. Please come to NY haha. I will travel to MA though, it's the closest to me! Have a great day!
Hi Ani - Thanks for being living proof that there is still a place for the indie musician, even in this overcapitalized, fundamentally corporate, aggrandised, elbow-riddled, crushed-palette of a music scene. In return, we, The Cut Throats of Tall Poppies, are working overtime to bring "poverty chic" back, but this time it will be real poverty, in its own organic chic form, a form that cannot be emulated by the phonies.
