Anifernyen is a name taken from ancient Breton texts which referred to hell as “An Ifern Yen”. Translated to contemporary English these words mean “A Frozen Hell”.
Anifernyen is a metal band that was born in the city of Vila Nova de Famalicão in 2003. Resulting from several influences an existence based on oppositions was born. This one is prominent in the contrast between the aggressive tempo, guitars, vocals and the melodic structure and composition. In the lyrics, as well as in the band’s name itself, the curious listener can find imaginary situations in which fusions of opposite elements appear.
Concerts started in 2005 and, by this time, we were hoping for a faster progression and a studio recording. Our plans suffered a delay when the keyboard player, Veloso, decided to leave the band. After a couple experiences with new keyboard players and a long wait for one that could be suitable for the place, we decided to continue without one. Having in mind that the initial structure and composition was based in keyboards the band decided to maintain only two tracks and “hibernate” to produce new ones.
It was on October of 2007, after deep reflection, that the band decided to record its first work in studio and started giving concerts again. Of several songs created in this period, five were chosen to integrate the E.P. “The Pledge of Chaos” recorded at UltraSoundStudios in Braga and produced by Daniel Cardoso (ex-Sirius) and Pedro Mendes. It’s in the summer of 2008 that, finally, this work reaches daylight. Limited to 1000 copies it will have the purpose to promote and acknowledge Anifernyen.
