Quite often good things take time, but then again sometimes things just click, things just work, things just happen - all for a reason.
If youíve ever seen or heard of a musical act with which this rings true, A Nighttime Skyway are it. Consider the fact that in 6 short months A Nighttime Skyway have gone from a bunch of mates from the sunny central coast of New South Wales, to writing and recording their debut long player with acclaimed ìThe Closerî brain child, Shaun Pretorious, Booking tours right thorough until mid 2009, and beginning to generate interest and contact with the heavyweights of the American music industry. Goals and setting their sights high are things A Nighttime Skyway consider as mandatory. ìWe are looking forward to achieving the goals weíve set for ourselves. The only way from here is up, and thatís what really excites us.î explains front man Matthew Bones. Adding Jake Forrest on guitar, John McAleer on bass and Cooper Jitts on drums, the band canít help but stress every detail of their journey.
ì Its just how we like to do thingsî skinsman Cooper Jitts explains, ìWeíve operated like this for a while now and it works for us. We all have the things we do individually for the band, then it all comes together in this big collaboration of ideas to form a song or a tour or whatever it may be. It just helps to get things doneî.
As you begin to take a closer look into their debut full length ìFirst day on a brand new planetî, its unlikely you will make all the poppy connections one may expect. Head song writer Jake Forrest explains ìThese arenít the type of tunes that come and go. We are not a one hit wonder; these are songs we want kids rocking their bedrooms to for years to come. We feel the album can really speak as one wholeî.
Working through the track listing, it quickly becomes evident A Nighttime Skyway mean business. From the moment it opens, the thick layers of guitars and heavy drums prepare to launch into a full scale assault. As the album progresses the musical chops of A Nighttime Skyway both as a band and individual musicians, becomes more and more evident. ìKickback co-pilotî spares no time in dropping syncopated feels and multi layered rhythms. ìWe are influenced by a wide variety of music, from ambient right through to a bunch of old hardcore bands. We couldnít be happier with the way these have shone through our songs, yet at the same time we arenít afraid to tap into a more melodic, softer side. We love being able to really hit people hard with our music, but we also enjoy the softer side to our styleî, bass player John McAleer explains. ìQueen Of The CD Empireî really does allow the listener to become encapsulated within the world the song has created. ìEven if itís only for a second, we feel blessed every day to be able to play a small role in those emotions only truly great music can stir. Its not really like anything anymoreÖ we have this chance to bring positive back into a world of negative, and were not going to stop nowî.
So if you were unaware of A Nighttime Skyway, be aware now. They are out to be heard.
