ANIK JEAN
From a young age Anik Jean has been interested in the blues and in the world of concerts. She was only 11 years old when she expressed a wish to become a singer / songwriter. All she needed was a David Bowie concert, which she attends with her mother, to persuade her to become musician. She learned the fundamentals of the guitar, of the flute, the piano and became an innovative artist. Over the years she has lived on the Gapse coast, in Los Angeles and in Montreal. On her road she met artists as creative as herself, like Jean Leloup, with whom she produced her first album.
LE TRASHY SALOON (2005)
It is in spring on 2005 when Anik Jean’s first single was serviced to radio. She quickly gained chart positions with “Je suis partie”. The next single “Junkie de toi” showed an even better success than the first single. The album Trashy Saloon made its appearance on August 31st of the same year. Very quickly the public adopted Anik Jean and her peers acknowledged a genuine personality in her. The artist made her mark with her style, her music and her boldness. It is thanks to these qualities that she accomplished being asked to open for the Rolling Stones during their passing in Montreal in January 2006.
Besides the success of the radio singles, videos also left their mark. Her participation with film directors as Francis Leclerc and Robin Aubert earned her a nomination at the Much Music Video Awards.
LE CIEL SAIGNE LE MARTYR (2008)
For her new album, the rock musician collaborated with producer Mark Plati who has also worked with such artists as David Bowie, Alain Bashung, Louise Attaque and Rita Mitsouko (to name a few). She surrounded herself with gifted musicians such as Earl Slick, Mike Garson, Sam Harrisson, Jean-Sebastian Chouinard, Alec McElcheran, Julien Blais and Antoine Gratton. The result is convincing: Le ciel saigne le martyr is an intense rock album, which well represents the artist. This second opus shows the maturity acquired by Anik Jean since the release of her first album and confirms the greatness of her talent one more time. The song “Oh mon cheri” is the first single from this album to climb up the radio charts and the public’s reaction is impressive.
