Pet of the month!!!!
My name is Austin. I was born with Hydrocephalus (water on the brain) in a shelter. I was then transferred to the shelter my new mom works at, along with my real sister and another litter of pups. Mommy fell in love with me the second she saw me. She watched for days as the other pups were all adopted, but i got looked over. My head wobbled alot and my hearing and sight left alot to be desired due to my condition. Mommy decided she would not let me spend my puppyhood in a shelter and scooped me up (ailments and all) and brought me HOME. I couldnt hear out of my right ear, and all i see are shadows. I was 8 weeks old and it was very hard on my mommy. She felt bad for me and I couldnt learn things that well. But we got past those few weeks and it was time to move from NY to AZ. We got in the car and drove, me, mom, dad, and my 1 and 1/2 year old (at the time) sister Athena (an american pit bull terrier and my soon to be BESTEST friend EVER). We got to AZ and the movers broke all my moms things and she couldn't get a job, things were TUFF. Mommy finally got a job at the local animal hospital and I was due for my last "Combo" vaccine. 1 week after that, i got very sick. I was throwin up and very,very week. Mommy had to bring me to a 24 hour hospital 45 minutes away, because hers was closed for the weekend. When the doctor finally saw me, he scooped me up away from mommy and told her I had parvo virus. He told her I could die, and my outcome was extremely garded. Mommy and daddy were besides themselves. In a new state, no friends, and there new baby was clinging to life in a strange place. They couldnt let mommy near me, because I was VERY contagious. So she saw me getting worse and worse and knew I couldnt see, but responded so well to her singing to me. She faught and faught for them to let her in my room, they finally did, on my worst night ever. She held me and sang to me and made me feel like I had someone who needed me. The next day, my vital signs were so much better, they let her take me home! A few months went by and I developed an aggression issue with my sister. Again, this was due to my condition. Mommy never gave up. Even though she doesnt know many people out here, she found the BEST of the BEST trainer who works with blind/deaf pups like me. So after a few sessions and another ton of money, Im the best pup mommy could ask for. I can hear ANYTHING and EVERYTHING now. My sight isnt the best, but I am very smart and use my ears to see when I have to. Now at 10 months old, I couldnt have asked for a better home. My mom and dad love me so very much and have the patience I need to get through everyday. And my sister, I couldnt imagine life without her! I dont care if I win, I just want someone to read this and think of the "Special" babies out there. Know they need love to. And perfection just aint all its cracked up to be!!! LOL. This is my story, and here is my picture. Thanks for listening!
