Onimasa - A Japanese Godfather (Kiryuuin Hanako no Shougai) - Available November 2009
Onimasa is the egocentric boss of a small yakuza clan on Shikoku island, and the last heir to a family of samurai. His struggles with his boss, the Shikoku Godfather, and the tumultuous life of his adopted daughter, Matsue, form the backdrop of this epic tale of justice, obedience, and bloody revenge.
This film is considered in Japan to be Hideo Gosha's best-known film.

Bushido - The Cruel Code of the Samurai (Bushido Zankoku Monogatari) - Available December 2009
Bushido, a.k.a. “The Way of the Warrior” is the chivalrous code of the samurai that has influenced the Japanese way-of-life for centuries. This epic film spans several generations of a typical samurai family, and illustrates the intricate system of loyalty, honor and sacrifice which bound the samurai in ages past, and which, in many ways, persists to this very day.
Winner of the Golden Bear award at the 1963 Berlin International Film Festival.

AnimEigo is honored to be releasing a special 4-film box set of Tora-san (“Otoko wa Tsurai yo”) films this fall. Featuring ATSUMI Kiyoshi as the lovable loser KURUMA Torajiro, the 48-film Tora-san series is by far the longest-running film series in Japanese history, and the second-longest overall.
In each film in the series, Tora-san, a suitcase carrying, leisure-suit wearing, traveling salesman visits a different part of Japan, where he meets a beautiful young woman, is smitten, and tells her if she ever needs help, she should come visit him in his small hometown of Shibamata (inside Tokyo). After returning home to his family, which disapproves of his wandering lifestyle, the damsel in distress shows up, and Tora-san falls in love. Alas, his attempts to help her, and win her heart, invariably cause her to fall for someone else!
Included in the set are the first four films of the series, “It's Tough being a Man”, “Tora-san's Cherished Mother”, “Tora-san, His Tender Love”, and “Tora-san's Grand Scheme”.
