About me:
Who I'd like to meet:
06/29/09

AnimEigo is honored to be releasing a special 4-film box set of Tora-san (“Otoko wa Tsurai yo”) films this fall. Featuring ATSUMI Kiyoshi as the lovable loser KURUMA Torajiro, the 48-film Tora-san series is by far the longest-running film series in Japanese history, and the second-longest overall.

In each film in the series, Tora-san, a suitcase carrying, leisure-suit wearing, traveling salesman visits a different part of Japan, where he meets a beautiful young woman, is smitten, and tells her if she ever needs help, she should come visit him in his small hometown of Shibamata (inside Tokyo). After returning home to his family, which disapproves of his wandering lifestyle, the damsel in distress shows up, and Tora-san falls in love. Alas, his attempts to help her, and win her heart, invariably cause her to fall for someone else!

Included in the set are the first four films of the series, “It's Tough being a Man”, “Tora-san's Cherished Mother”, “Tora-san, His Tender Love”, and “Tora-san's Grand Scheme”.

The Yawara Season One Box Set has completed shipping. If you preordered the set and haven't had one shipped to you, please contact us so we can figure out what happened; there are a few cases, for example, of people whose credit cards were declined and whose email addresses were invalid so we couldn't easily contact them.

We have a few extra sets left over, so if you missed out and are now bitterly regretting your lack of vision, we are making this special 1-day Halloween offer -- call 1-800-24-ANIME and embarrass yourself by reciting the following lines, and we can probably fix you up:

"Trick or treat, Trick or treat, I think Yawara's really neat! Send me one, on the double, If I can't watch it, I'm in trouble!"

10/23/08

All Yawara box sets have now been shipped out. If you missed the preorder, don't worry! Stay tuned for ordering information.

10/17/08

Guess what arrived in our warehouse yesterday? That's right, we've already started shipping Yawara preorders! If you're one of the lucky few, you'll start receiving them Tuesday. Feel free to post your impressions of the set here, the only place where your feedback goes directly to the DVD Producer of Yawara!

10/10/08

The Yawara Season One Box Set preorder will officially close on the evening of Friday, October 10th, and if all goes well, will be shipping on Monday, October 20th. If you haven't preordered yet, please do so ASAP. If you have, then please make sure your address and payment information is current.

KAIDAN is the term used for the Japanese ghost stories, and, extensively, for the
J-Horror culture. The Buddhist moralizing stories were rapidly transformed into international shockers; people wanted more frightening monstrosities and oddness, with no direct connection with the Western horror.

Manga, anime, movies and the subcultures developed around them competed in shicks and panic. If you really want to know why on the Japanese horror movies is written 18+, take a look at the next issue of Otaku Magazine. Nevertheless, is our duty to warn you that all who looked inside certain pages of this issue have disappeared shortly after. Still, it might be just a story to send the children to sleep for good.
