In his book Totally Awesome 80s (St. Martins Press New York 1996) Matthew Rettenmund listed Animotions "Obsession" as ..3 in his list of Quintessentially 80s Songs. The bands name, Animotion was also chosen as the second best band name of the 80s! Also check out Flashbacks to Happiness it has an interview with Charles from Animotion.

Astrid and Charles put the band together in 1983. Astrid invented the name Animotion to convey energy and emotion. They recruited former L.A. Red Zone band members Frenchy OBrien (drums) and Paul Antonelli (keyboards). Larry Ross (manager) quit CBS records to become their full time manager and he brought in Bill Wadhams to front the band with Astrid. In March 1984 they did a showcase for Russ Regan of Polygram Records and inked the deal soon after. KROQ in Los Angeles, put Obsession on "heavy rotation" in December 1984....

ANIMOTION was one of the pioneers of techno music in the 1980s.

We were one of the first bands to fully use the newest technologies like sampling, looping and sequencing. We used an Atari computer, then later a Mac on our albums AND on tour. This was practically unheard of in those days. We combined the techno stuff with rock and 2 lead singers to make a unique sound.

We played many concerts/tours with Depeche Mode, Howard Jones and L.A. punk band 'X'
We performed at the Montreaux Rock Festival with Inxs, Eurythmics, Phil Collins, Simply Red, Depeche Mode, Queen...many more
