Anisa Hayes isn't afraid to let the world see her naked... emotionally speaking, that is. Revealing delightfully intimate lyrics, she bares the pain of her struggles and the triumph of overcoming them with a vulnerability that's near impossible not to relate to. She's a genuine story teller and a passionate entertainer, with a style likened to both Joni Mitchell and Sarah McLachlin. In a voice that ranges from golden sultry tones to a breathy soprano, she uses graceful melodies to drive home a poetic, upbeat, undeniably heart-rending brand of acoustic folk/pop.
Some of Anisa's songs depict personal experience, like fond childhood memories (Who We Are) or the bitter-sweet step of leaving home (This Place). Her song Human (a finalist in the Unisong International Songwriting Competition) portrays a homeless woman who finally finds grace. Then there is the tale of Sam, the schizophrenic cat. Anisa contemplates the problems of life, such as "How do I live in the moment?" (Up To Me), "Where do we go when we die?" (And I Dream), and "Will that calabash fall on my head???" (The Mango Song). She answers herself with witty, insightful responses.
Anisa has opened for national acts, such as Kansas, REO Speedwagon, and Mindi Abair. She has an endorsement deal with ghs strings® and her music is in AMI Jukeboxes nationwide. Her latest CD was nominated for the 2007 Grand Rapids Jammie Awards as Best Local Folk Album of the Year. Anisa was also nominated as Best New Folk Artist.
