About me:
IaOrana et Maeva!
You have found the MySpace page of a hardworkin', hip-poppin Tahitian Ori troupe on the "east side" (one of the few)!
Mou'a Vahine means "Women of the Mountain" in Tahitian. We are a dance troupe based in Charlottesville Virginia. We celebrate Tahitian culture through learning Tahitian words, songs and dances.
W. Aniseh Burtner is the troupe director and class instructor. She has been studying Tahitian dance for 9 years; in California, she danced with Ka Ua Tuahine Polynesian Dance Company, an award winning ensemble based out of Berkeley California and dedicated to the perpetuation of Polynesian performing arts. She was one of 7 student dancers invited to travel to Papeete, Tahiti in the summer of 2002 to study and perform with one of Tahiti's preeminent dance ensembles, Ori Here Maohi Dance Company. In the spring of 2005, she spent 8 months studying with Fetia Tahiti in Paris, France. The group gave performances in Paris and in Cannes.
You gotta check out www.aniseh.net for more info!
Who I'd like to meet: Because we're far away from our 'west side' bruddahs and sistahs, we'd love to collaborate with other schools, choreographers and instructors. It would be great to create a relationship where we could invite guest instructors to hold workshops in our studio.
