Spider's Song (2007) Penguin Canada // Young Adult psychological thriller set in Yellowknife, NT // ISBN 978-0-14-305297-5 : $12.99

I was smarter. I was always smarter. A little cut-cut, drip-drip, blood saved and sprinkled.

Stuck in Yellowknife with her crazy grandmother, AJ is one angry girl. She's lonely, too, and her blog has become her main source of contact with the world. It is there she reveals her innermost hurts-the absence of her mother, who has gone back to school, and of her father, who abandoned AJ when she was just a little girl; and the moving around she and her mom have had to do every few years for reasons she has never understood. And recently, she's begun to cut herself-a powerful habit and shame she is trying to overcome.

Then a festival is held in Yellowknife, and AJ is befriended by a travelling musician, a man she finds herself instantly drawn to. Soon, she realizes that he may be her father.

Or is he?

Anita Daher's chilling new novel will grip you completely from beginning to shocking end.

What Jaz thinks of as an adventure, her mom and dad call trouble, but Jaz just can't seem to help herself. When she joins the Junior Canadian Rangers and is teamed up with an annoying partner, she has no idea that all her new-found skills will soon be put to a life and death test.

    About me:
Anita Daher draws writing inspiration from the many places she's been lucky to spend time in which include Summerside, PEI, Yellowknife, NT, Churchill, MB, Baker Lake, NU, and Sault Ste. Marie, ON. She's been entrenched in the book publishing industry for several years writing books, articles and reviews, leading workshops and presentations, and has worked on the publishing end of things as a marketing director and an editor. Anita has five juvenile and young adult novels published by Orca and Penguin Canada: Flight from Big Tangle, Flight from Bear Canyon, Racing for Diamonds, Spider's Song and Two Foot Punch. When she's not writing, she likes to spend time baking, playing her guitar (badly), and turning her backyard garden into a haven for neighbourhood bunnies.

Basic information for those interested in writing and publishing, but not sure where to start.

    • Join a writers' group--share work, and information. Enjoy meeting with like minds.

    • Join a regional or local writers’ organization. The information and support you will find may be invaluable. If you are unsure where to find a writers' organization, check with a local arts organization, or a library.

    • Read the type of work you would like to publish. Read a lot. Read excessively.

    • Write every day--even just a little.

    • Write with the intent to be published. After you have written a piece, look for a most suitable publisher. Look in literary magazines, writer resource books, writers’ org websites and newsletters, more.

    • Learn to enjoy editing.

HI Anita, exciting days indeed. We're so happy the wee yin will be born in the middle of winter so he/she can grow into the summer. And yi seem to be having an exciting time yirsel: sparking on the creativity front, hanging out with daughter and cuddies. my other news is that i'm writing poetry again. I regard myself first and foremost as a poet, but there has been so little time these last couple of years. But now the dam (or damn!) has burst in my head and evey second I get i'm getting a line or a stanza down. which is great fun. Cheers & catch yi later Canadian Cousin Type Person Dude - Rab :-)

Anita, so far, my birthday has been occupied with the three new cats we adopted to go with the big poofy orange cat we already had. One of the new ones just jumped up on my lap making typing now a little more difficult. Thanks for the birthday wishes.

Hi Coz, how you doing? HUGE apologies for not being out of touch. It's been a roller coaster couple of months. The storytelling suddenly went ballistic - which is exhausting but great fun. But of course the bestest news is that we're having a baby in December. Yay!. So hows things over in Canada? Did your book launch go well? Hugs & happiness, Rab :-) xxx

Whats up Anita Daher? How r u?.....I stopped by to tell u that Hip-Hop Legend Nas threw down a sick show last week at the Kool Haus...... proving that Hip-Hop is alive and well....It was a great show and the Toronto crowd went home witness to hip-hop history.....One of the shows highlights was NAS's performance of "One Mic". Nas was on the top of his game during this song, switching between tempo's with gusto.....You can watch NAS's performance of "One Mic Live in Toronto" by copying/pasting the link below or by googling Rap Project TV:
