MySpace a place for friends

A guy told me on New Year’s Eve that “women are genetically pre-disposed to loving diamonds.” I said: “I don’t like diamonds.” He said: “Yes, you do.” Me: “No, I don’t.” Guy: “Yes, you do.”

This was the conversation that opened my eyes to the reality that I generally hate most people I meet, don’t understand the average person’s train-of-thought and probably need to move out of America.

I’m a guy’s girl even though that means we’re always the homie in the end. I don’t wear nail polish, and when I do it’s chipped. I’m not the cute, quiet girl in a skirt at the Wu-Tang show. I’m the girl backstage in Pumas with a blunt in my mouth taking pictures of them.

I used to write and take photos for The Source until one day I realized they went from the illest to the wackest in the game. Then I floated around from Jointzmag, YRB, Mean Street, Insider, Frank and a bunch of other unkowns hating on people until I made a home for myself as an editor at RIME magazine where I’ve had the honor of documenting the likes of Afrika Bambaataa, Gangstarr,The Roots, Mos Def, Mobb Deep, Kool Keith, Wu-Tang, and mad other people I can't remember off the top of my head.

There are very few players in the music game that still inspire me. And most of them are dead. I was a hip hop head until it lost its common sense and became merely lackluster and common.

I think I’m going to continue to travel and attempt to decipher the truly important questions of society, like why and how do all these damn kids have Vans on their feet everywhere I go? And how come a record number of these kids are strung out on Ritalin and Prozac?
