For the past 17 months, I have had the honour of serving the people of Queensland as Premier.
It is a job I love, working for the State I love. There is simply no better place to be.
But as we look over the horizon in to the future, there are some key challenges we face, as a State and as a nation.
The global financial crisis has well and truly hit home. Now more than ever, we need experienced leadership and a strong plan to secure jobs and help shield the economy from the fall out.
Climate change is also a very real threat. We need to act now to protect our environment for our children and our grandchildren.
And with 1,800 people arriving in Queensland every week, we have real pressures on our roads, our hospitals, our schools and other important service areas. It’s a challenge for any Government.
We have strong plans in place to tackle these issues today, and in the years to come.
We are delivering the biggest building program in Australia to help secure jobs and deliver vital infrastructure all over Queensland – this $17 billion investment is creating 119,000 jobs. It will build better roads, hospitals and schools and is exactly what Queensland needs to stay strong.
Overall, my vision for Queensland is built on the need to anticipate the challenges we will face and tackle them head on.
I am not afraid of making the tough decisions today, to build a better tomorrow.
Which is exactly what my plan for Tomorrow’s Queensland – Q2 we call it – seeks to achieve as it looks to a State that is Stronger, Greener, Smarter, Healthier and Fairer.
I am passionate about Queensland and really believe that, with experience and responsible decision making, we will be well placed to deal with these tough times and have a bright future ahead.
We have worked hard to get the best deal for Queenslanders – but there is more to be done. And with your support, we’ll keep working to keep Queensland strong.
I have lived in Queensland now for over 6yrs. Last July I received my citizenship. I watch the news constantly..listen to what's going on around me and TRY to make an informed choice. I am saying now..I "WILL" be voting for you. it is my FIRST ever vote as a citizen, I am looking forward to it.
