Anna Elias and the Forlorn Hope were formed in 2007 with the intention of exploring what would happen if you write and perform music with a simple desire to create moments of beauty
The Forlorn Hope like to keep things very organic, acoustic and loose. The journey so far has resulted in a sound that has been described as ‘Chilled, organic, full and fragile’. The songs are rooted in both traditional and contemporary folk music with elements of West Coast Americana. Our philosophy could be that we think music is too important to take too seriously, and way too serious to not put your heart into.
The Forlorn Hope is the collective of musicians who play with Anna, named after the usually doomed / idealistic / desperate troop of soldiers who would head up the siege offence during the Napoleonic wars. Harvey loves the idea that blind optimism can sometimes produce remarkable results. Check out this link if you want to understand where the name comes from. "We think that if you try to create music for it's own sake, you have the chance of creating a wee bit of magic & beauty".
At the heart of the music is the songwriting of Anna and Harvey and the sound is created by the Forlorn Hope band who include a variety of wonderful musicians and friends (including Nic Vocaturo on guitars, Colin Dunkley playing Indian Harmonium and Cello, Jez Vocaturo on double bass and Tristan Vocaturo on percussion /drums).
Anna and the band are in the process of writing and recording their first album which is planned for release in autumn 2009
