"One of Chicago's most treasured voices..."
–Greg Kot, Chicago Tribune
A singer, songwriter, and musical interpreter with the forthrightness and emotion in her songs that commands you to take notice and haunts you long after her melodies have left…
Inspired by a serenade from a young suitor, Anna Fermin had no choice, “I was so moved by my young love's serenade, I knew at that moment, I had to learn how to do exactly what was being done to me: move the earth and soul with song.”
Shortly after her musical awakening, Anna penned her first song and started showcasing her powerful alto at local Chicago open mics.
"She can deliver a husky approximation of Dolly Parton in one breath and shift into deep soul belting in the next," wrote Peter Margasak of the Chicago Reader.
Encouraged by fellow songwriters and musicians, she formed her first band, Anaboy, in 1995. After some changes in the band’s line-up, Anna Fermin's Trigger Gospel was born. In the spring of 1997, the band recorded and debuted its first, self-titled EP with Mark Dube at Playtime Studios in Boston. By December of that same year, the band was opening for the late, great Johnny Cash at the House of Blues Chicago.
The band went on to release their first full-length CD, "Things to Come," with legendary Texas producer and pedal-steel extraordinare, Lloyd Maines, receiving critical acclaim both nationally and internationally.
Since then, Anna and her band have released three more full length CD's and have shared the stage with an impressive roster of musicians including Steve Earle, Neko Case, Robbie Fulks, Paula Cole, Delbert McClinton, and many more. Her voice remains a strong and vibrant presence in Chicago's music scene and abroad.
Now, inspired by new life experiences, Anna continues to weave a rich brocade of musical stories with melodies that leave you wanting more.
