Anna Karina played their first show in the summer of 2004 in Newport Beach California. The members at this time were Roy Palacios and brothers Aaron Eslick, Brandon and Andrew Drey.
They played a style a style of music that was challening yet accessible and played many shows to unappreciative audiences. This line up existed for almost two years and was possibly the most active period of the band. They recorded a nine song album called "Spaceship underneath the Ocean". This album showcased how diverse the band could be with songs ranging from full out psychedelic rockers to spacey lullabies. In 2006 Brandon left Caifornia for NYC to pursue an acting career and the band begun a temporary hiatus.
They decided to give rock n roll one more chance and recruited long time friend Christopher Boczek(the greyhounds) to play in the band. This would mark a major depature from the early Anna Karina sound as Aaron switched from guitar to bass and Christopher now played the second guitar and also sang half the songs. The new sound was fierce and was something like Fugazi and Drive like Jehu meeting Can or Syd Barret Era Pink Floyd. This was an exciting time for the band and they played shows with Avail, The Draft, The new Trust, and other notable punk rock bands. However, the good times could not last forever and after conflict of interest over direction of the band they all finally decided to let it RIP. The only documentation of this last first version of the band is one video of one song from their last show and one recorded song "the shame" as heard on the myspace. If you would like to purchase the LP "Spaceship" please get in touch with band. And for all of you who came to the shows and witnessed this beautiful part of our lives. thank you. love,
