THE DUB PROJECT NA DEAD. DEATH IS A WORD CREATED BY THE ENEMY .. ........The Ann Arbor Dub Project started in October of 2004 as a studio project. What was in mind was to collaborate enthusiasts of Jamaican music (mainly reggae) from Michigan into a cd. What happened though was that a band was formed around Nate, Sunny and after our first show Chip. Chip turned out to be the real backbone of the Dub Project with his ultra talented songwriting skills and super versatile drumming abilities. Also as much as the Dub Project is an audio project its just as much a visual project. Sunnys Dub Posters express the spiritual (sometimes renegade religious), political, social and environmental concerns of the band and Chips lyrics. Alot of the time our good friend Joe can be seen in front of the stage painting to the music on his canvas and easel. Chip and Sunny have lived off the grid in the forest on private land west of town since April of 07' which has been inspiring to say the least. They currently are spending the winter in a wood stove heated tree house. Nate our bass player aka DJ Ornate is a stunning reggae selecta, hip hop dj and has an amazing collection of funk, soul and motown records. We have collaborated with many local, national and international reggae enthusiasts. Come check us out... WE'RE UNIQUE!!! Current Members are Sunny (rhythm guitar, founding member), Chip (lead vocals, drum kit), Nate (Bass), Jared (keys) & Kevin (trumpet)------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Recently we opened for Israel Vibration with the original Roots Radics band including Styles Scott on drums and Earl "Flabba" Holt. It was a great honor to meet them. Ras Kente filled in for Nate on bass at the Kalamazoo Island Fest where we shared the bill with The Meditations. Several shows we have backed Temesgen Hussein of Ethiopia and member of the Lansing based reggae group the Mau Mau's. We opened for Matisyahu in January of 2005 at the Blind Pig in Ann Arbor. Later that spring we opened for The Easy Star All Star's Dub Side of the Moon, which was most irie. We plerformed live on WCBN on Brian Tomsik's Train to Skaville. We played on top of The Planet when it was on South University. We had to pull our equipment 2 floors up a fire escape and then the last floor up a step ladder to the roof. We made it through about 2 songs before the cops managed to shut the power to the building down. Also we had the opportunity to play the Ann Arbor Summer Fest aka Top of the Park with the Sun Messengers. In 2007 Chip, Kevin and Sunny opened for State Radio (a sold out show) at the Blind Pig. There has been a great number of musicians that have been either in the band or have jammed with us or we've opened for them or vice versa, etc... To name a few: Ras Kente, Temesgen Hussein of Ethiopia, King Jazzy aka Benji, JAH Roots of Missouri, Burnin Man, Mystic Dub, Madis, JAH Poncho!, Hutchy, Ras Steven, Harmony (Bom Bom Bedum Bom Bom),Tony, Sista Otis, Queen Ann C, River Nile, Josh, Ras B of Pontiac, Jah Womb of CA, The Macpodz, Ink Blot, Night Cap, Mutual Cumquat, Brant, Matt, Doug and the whole Rootstand crew, Spiritual Rez, Maruga, Ras Nick, Mark & Dee Dee, Messenger, Hullaballoo, Birds Eye View, Chadness, Natural Canvas, Narwhales Collide, Finite Gallery, Fundubmentals, Like Water Drumming, Sandra Dan Tafari, Ras Core, Ras Terry, Jess Wilyard, Joosh, Joe.
