Anna Spackman grew up in Chester Springs, Pennsylvania with a piano and a head full of musical whimsy. A couple of years after a guitar entered her life, these ideas began spilling out of her mouth and ears like stars, and she has been working ever since to try to turn them into songs. People have said they are reminiscent of Ani Difranco, Joni Mitchell and Feist - Anna simply hopes that they say something helpful occasionally, and linger in your ear for a little while.

She is now at Lewis and Clark College out in Oregon, so watch for her at Portland open mics.

Hey Anna! How's school so far? I just got into Portland a week ago, so I'm just figuring things out. Our semester starts on the 29th. Normally I would call up the city hall which is probably listed under the city of Portland in the phone book. You can also try the Police department. I see people playing around so I know it's possible. You might not even need one. When I get settled I'll give you a shout and we should definitely play some. I have already found some good open mics.
You should start now. It's never too soon. Some people book way in advance. It's always good to start bugging people, even if they aren't booking now. Have a good demo w/ a couple of songs, your bio and a picture. Always find out who the contact person is and do a follow up call after you send the kit. Don't worry about annoying people. They're used to it! Good luck! Also find tour cards of local artist you like to see. See where they're playing and call up those places too!
