Influences
famous dead/alive people, her very tall and very loving family, all of her friends who write poems & music in their bedrooms, feeling good, feeling bad, love, always love, monotony, spooning, the city, the train, school, poetry, sidewalks, driving long distances, not getting pulled over, good voicemails, good emails, good photos, the internet, good books, bad books, being broke, buying flowers, buying flowers despite being broke, light through windows, tall ceilings, seasons changing, haircuts, handmade presents, everyones' collarbones, lots of blankets, busted keys, and the sounds from the trains that come through the window at night.
Sounds Like
songs about other people, generally ones who are famous.

ANNA'S ELECTRONIC PRESS KIT
Anna Vogelzang, unavoidably soulful singer/songwriter and newly-transplanted midwesterner sings the best kind of songs, the ones about feelings. She has shared stages with awesome folks like: Regina Spektor, Franz Nicolay (The Hold Steady), Mirah (K Recs), Wye Oak (Merge Records), Deer Tick, Nat Baldwin (Dirty Projecters), Casey Dienel (White Hinterland), Amanda Palmer, Kyp Malone (TV on the Radio), and tons of other peeps. She also spent some quality time performing as a vocalist with The Dresden Dolls, notably at Lollapalooza 2006 & on NPR's World Cafe. Her college thesis, 10-song studio album The Things That Airplanes Do, was mastered at Capitol Records in glamtastic Hollywood by Ron McMaster (Diana Krall, The Beach Boys, Gwen Stefani). The Pittsburgh City Paper called her "an erudite pop star in the making" when she released the cd in April 2007; she graduated that spring with a BFA in Creative Music Production from Carnegie Mellon University. Now she's living the quarter-life-crisis dream of no real job and constant travel between Chicago, IL & Madison, WI where she plays as many shows as she can, much to the chagrin of her beauty sleep. She also drives all over the country playing music with her friends on DIY tours, and plans to keep at it until her 98 Nissan falls apart. Anna is a member of ASCAP.
"Her voice will blanket you with awe... Do whatever you can to see her live." - The Deli Magazine
"Pittsburgh's indie-folk scene said goodbye to one of its brightest singer-songwriters when Anna Vogelzang took off for Chicago." - Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
“Anna Vogelzang is one of the promising young female artists who puts her money where her mouth is. This girl won’t stop until she gets the attention she deserves, and believe me, she deserves it." – Amanda Palmer, The Dresden Dolls
"Combine sweet, early-jazz warbling, classic female singer-songwriter acoustics, girl-with-a-guitar aesthetics, and indie-folk quirk (imagine Kimya Dawson if she could really sing) with a dash of slightly angsty girl-rock (Ani DiFranco if she’d mellow out), and you’ll have an inkling of the unique style cultivated by vocalist Anna Vogelzang." - Brick Weekly, Richmond, VA

So I was thinking maybe we could go for a little bike ride to Newcastle tomorrow then grab some food at the Toast. Oh damn, you're not here. Come on back.
I was just going through boxes for my mother in her basement, almost crushed one of my own boxes I left there filled with music, books and graphic novels. I pulled out The Communist Manifesto, The Time Machine, Gertrude, Geothe, The Sonnets of Shakespeare, The Death of Superman, Wet Till Birth, Kid A, Muddy Waters, Queen and FOUR of your albums I purchased at the Greenline in W. Philadelphia two years ago! I have been a vagabond since then and have not had ANY of my music available and found more along the way, so I thought you would find this a little less than amusing. See you on the other side!
The 2nd Annual Spring Fling Clothing Swap will be April 5th 2pm - 5:30pm in Bridgeport. Let me know if you can make it and I will send you more details!
