Influences
famous dead/alive people, her very tall and very loving family, all of her friends who write poems & music in their bedrooms, feeling good, feeling bad, love, always love, monotony, spooning, the city, the train, school, poetry, sidewalks, good voicemails, good emails, good photos, the internet, good books, bad books, being broke, buying flowers, light through windows, tall ceilings, seasons changing, haircuts, handmade presents, everyone’s collarbones, lots of blankets, busted keys, and all of the sounds of the boulevard that come through the window at night.
news: the awesome studio album is out in real life & on the internet. take a listen to family band & pittsburgh (above), & if you feel so inclined you can buy a real album at the store or the digital album on itunes (above).
info: anna vogelzang is unavoidably soulful. she has major vocals. she was a vocal major. anna vogelzang has gotten a lot of crap for this blurb saying she doesn't like dancing. it's just that it's fun for awhile and then it gets a little bit too much for her. it's just that really she's pretty bad at it, also. so anna vogelzang doesn't really like dancing although she appreciates those who do. she can make a really good burrito and loves colorful shoes. she has graduated from college & is now living the dream (!!) playing shows, going on tours, working as little as possible and writing lots of music. right now she lives in chicago, a city that she loves, and hosts open mics every other wednesday at hotti biscotti in logan square (when she's in town). she loves being on the road with her friends and plans on spending a whole lot of the future in her 98 nissan with her guitar & piano & whoever else wants to come along.

Samuel Markus and The Only Ones debut their full length cd entitled New Dawn- Featuring the enigmatic Rosa- a swinging highly catchy melody with a street groove- then the very Tom Petty like Another Way and the love song Suzanne which reminds of Leonard Cohen- With the song The Offering Samuel shows his spiritual side with poetic lyrics that are visually inspiring- in fact much of New Dawn elicits the very cinematic writing that is at the core of Samuel's work-his music expresses the love he has for the silver screen and every song is certainly a movie in itself. The Only Ones feature the incredible slide guitar of Casey Mohoney- the inspired drumming and bass playing of Nick D'virgilio and Ron Underwood from Opiate For The Masses.
"New Dawn is fully evolved. Folk-based tunes with pop-realm accessibility. Within each song are familiar folk stories, delivered with near-dangerous catchiness. These tunes remain in the heads of their listeners, but their intelligent and narrative content makes them welcome additions to cerebral playlists." - PlugInMusic.com

Yaaay! I like it too! I'm so happy I found these little heartzies. Hope you're having a good week. I'm going to Liar's Club tomorrow (Wed) to see Avi spin. You should come if you're not busy at Hotti Biscotti.
Good lord.. haha..hey, I just wanted to say thank you for coming to Portland. I know the venue situation wasn't ideal and neither was the amount of people there, but I felt really lucky to have seen all three of your sets; especially acoustically (I know the pole sucked, but the unplugged made it so personal and intimate). The three of you have such talent and presence, I was blown away. So thank you again for being there.
