Interests

  • General

my pets, music (solid gold, oldies, classic rock, blues, progressive rock, heavy metal, soul, country, dance, rap--party rap), theater (writing plays, seeing plays), movies, TV, dancing, weight lifting, drawing, writing, reading memoirs and history books.
  • Movies

THE LIVES OF OTHERS and BEAVIS & BUTTHEAD DO AMERICA are my favorite movies. I loved WIZARD OF OZ, BORN IN EAST L.A., SOUND OF MUSIC & MARY POPPINS (a big Julie Andrews fan), THE PRINCESS DIARIES, LEGALLY BLONDE II, STARGATE. HITCH, ZOOLANDER, POWER OF TEN, CELLULAR, WHITE GIRLS, the documentary: SUGIHARA: CONSPIRACY OF KINDNESS. There's just a lot of films out there. I'm not that critical of a movie watcher, but I do like creativity, good production, and a unique point of view. I also like lots of plays. I'm a playwright and have five plays, three screenplays available to be read by the industry. There are other plays I'm writing, and I hope to have more in time to be read.
  • Television

movies on TV, news, comedy--I'm a big MSNBC fan. I love SMALLVILLE--don't call me Thursday nights. Also I catch THE COLBERT REPORT, DAILY SHOW and SOUTH PARK whenever I can.

About me:

Anne Leighton believes that artists can work within their own means by creating their own career opportunities. And she has done that for herself via her love of mass media, as a writer, publicist and even a music manager.

After a five year career in commercial radio, which included WBUZ-Fredonia, WZIR-Buffalo, WRNW-Briarcliff Manor, she began writing articles for GOLDMINE and BUFFALO's NIGHTLIFE. This led to a nine year stint as an editor at HIT PARADER magazine, where she also wrote for ROCK & SOUL, and freelanced for a variety of publications including THE MUSIC PAPER, MUSIC LIFE JAPAN, INSIDE KUNG FU, MUSCLEMAG INTERNATIONAL.

As she wrote, she also helped local bands find shows and get into the media, and became a music publicist. She's worked with a variety of classic artists, including Jethro Tull (since 1998), Grand Funk Railroad and Stratospheerius (since 2001), Tower of Power and Jann Klose (since 2004), Carl Palmer (since 2006), and Jay and The Americans plus Cevin Soling and the love kills theory (since 2007).

One of her publicity accounts--Jann Klose--is also her administrative client, meaning she handles detail work in all aspects of his career. This relationship gives her the opportunity to branch into all the exciting aspects of the music business, plus new territories. Anne loves to branch, and believes all things are possible, even earning a living from one's talents.

Of her own art, she branched into writing about the media for INSIDE CONNECTION and wrote a book, USING YOUR ART & THE MEDIA TO COMFORT PEOPLE for Free to Run books in West Hills, CA. She also wrote about animals for CAT FANCY, NEW YORK TAILS, various newspapers and magazines. Her new book, PAWS FOR THOUGHT: HOW TO UNDERSTAND WHAT YOUR CAT IS THINKING is available through Rockwell Books, UK.

Anne also writes plays, poems, and a variety of other works. She is currently co-writing a horror movie called, ZOMBIE BILL with some Jethro Tull fans at Cheap Jersey Video--it's possible she might write a book about politics!
