About me:

Hi, my name is Anne and I am SWF, 49, living in the Yorkville area of Manhattan (boring, I know). I'm a freelance entertainment journalist mainly specializing in the teenybop ("tween") and urban teen fields. This article on bargain shops in Harlem was recently published in Time Out New York. I also wrote an article for them on a tour of Biggie Smalls' old Brooklyn haunts.

Also, check out my stories/guest blogs on financefoodie.com, themacwire.com and ontheteenbeat.com.

I grew up in northern NJ and most of my time is spent writing and enjoying the cultural things Manhattan has to offer! I love grand old buildings as well as 'hoods that look a little downtrodden!

Not too much into today's music to be honest--I just like the occasional song here and there. I am more of a classic rock person who loves 60s, 70s and some 80s music. I am a big original punk scene fan, but like Frank Sinatra as well. And maybe it is because I am Italian, but I am a closet Dean Martin and Louis Prima fan! I actually like Nancy Sinatra too! I love her kitschy old video clips on youtube!

MY CURRENT POP CULTURE FIX IS LISTENING TO JONESY'S JUKEBOX ON BBC 6 RADIO but miss the Friday panel discussion show he used to have in LA (Jonesy's Jukebox Jury)!

Now, check out some cool videos I have posted below!

Flea Market Montgomery - The Long Version Of This Commercial is SUPER-HYSTERICAL!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJ3oHpup-pk

THIS WAS VOTED WORST COMMERCIAL OF LAST YEAR FOR A REASON...but it's so bad that it's GOOD!

Who I'd like to meet:

I have met almost everyone I have wanted to meet but let me put on my thinking cap and get back to you on that one!!

The Velvet Underground - Rock 'N Roll--a classic!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSqIzvaX8n8

This song still sounds fresh today!

Gary Glitter - Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah)--THE ULTIMATE GLAM ROCK SINGLE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pIB4kI6ivv4

This is possibly my favorite glitter rock song of all time....it makes me want to put on a silver lame jumpsuit!

Alice Cooper Elected--reminds me of seventh grade!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NawhWb8Uu5E

If alice cooper was running for president, I would have actually registered to vote just so that I could vote for him!

Interests

  • General

Classic Rock, my polka-dotted 1978 Seeburg Disco model jukebox (featuring all the hits grew up with), EBAY, The Sopranos, walking through New York's great neighborhoods...I have many favorite mom and pop stores in the city. I love the English grocery store in the West Village called Myers Of Keswick with the funny picture of Keith Richards looking really stoned on the front door. (Underneath the photo, it says, "Another satisfied customer!" which makes me wonder if they are selling illegal substances in the back!)
  • Music

Anything but country, jazz or opera...I am not one of those middle-aged ladies wearing stretchy "Southwestern look" clothing from Chico's and listening to Andrea Bocelli and Sarah McLachlan...I don't have too much of a mellow side, but when I do, you can catch me listening to mellow R&B ballads of the 60s and 70s!
  • Movies

Number one of all time--GOODFELLAS! I love drug and mob movies! Other movie favorites include A BRONX TALE, CASINO, SCARFACE, TO DIE FOR, SID & NANCY, The 40-YEAR-OLD VIRGIN, AMERICAN GANGSTER and BLOW except for the ending! MY NEW FAVE IS A PARODY OF BLAXPOITATION FILMS called BLACK DYNOMITE, coming out in October and starring Tommy Davidson!
  • Television

Sopranos, trashy reality shows (Rock Of Love, Rock Of Love Bus, Flava Of Love, Dr. 90210, Real Housewives Of Orange County, Real Housewives Of Atlanta, New York & NJ, Rich Bride, Poor Bride, Platinum Weddings, Redneck Weddings, etc.) Hmm, I just noticed a lot of these have been cancelled! I also admit to watching Deal Or No Deal and dig Howie's "soul patch" as passe as it might be!
  • Books

Last book read: new book by Mary Forsberg Weiland and now reading Miss O'Dell by Chris O'Dell..before that BLUE JEAN BABY by Sally Parmer (fab LA coming of age story)...before that, VERA RAMONE: I MARRIED A RAMONE (Vera has since become a good friend), before that, JANIS IAN: SOCIETY'S CHILD...before that it was MIA TYLER: CREATING MYSELF...before that it was LET'S SPEND THE NIGHT TOGETHER by Pamela Des Barres...and before that, WONDERFUL TONIGHT by Pattie Boyd however, I admit that I "cheated" and listened to the audiobook first! Other recent "reads" were the wonderful DANDELION: MEMOIR OF A FREE SPIRIT by 60s/70s scenester Catherine James and the groupie-themed HOLLYWOOD DIARIES by Morgana Welch.
  • Heroes

Whomever invented ice cream is my hero--I should do some online research on that! Also, would like to shake the hand of whomever invented Boylan, Hires and A&W brands of Root Beer! I am into finding obscure sodas when I can, and love all ginger beers. I recently got a Sodastream machine so I can make my own soda. In my next life, I hope to have Paris Hilton's metabolism so I don't gain weight so easily!
