We love to jam!
Watch Annie Sellick, Tom Sturdevant, Richard Smith, Pat Bergeson, Tommy Emmanuel, Andy Leftwich, Charlie Chadwick and Tom Giampietro rehearse Tom Sturdevant's song "I Love You" at the 2010 Chet Atkins Convention in Nashville.
Annie & the Hot Club invite you to a ride through Gypsy Jazz and Western Swing!
"It is a fun loving, story telling, toe tapping, tear jerking, sit back and enjoy experience for the listener. A certified 'less of the same' endeavor ... a patchwork quilt of music certain to warm your heart, put a lift in your step, a tear in your eye and a smile on your face. Get cozy and enjoy. Keep going, Annie!"

ANNIE AND THE HOT CLUB is made of jazz vocalist Annie Sellick, and The Hot Club of Nashville, lead by Richard Smith. Close jamming relationships lead to appearances in European festivals like the Tommy Emmanuel Guitar Festival in Rietberg, Germany.
Another thing that lead to the development of Annie and the Hot Club was my desire to play at the famous Bluebird Cafe in my hometown, Nashville. The Bluebird is a songwriters venue, and people from all over go there to hear country and americana. As a jazz artist, my compromise was getting to work finding Nashville-written jazz and swing, and making sure the tourists got their violin solos. Between my life in jazz and the Hot Club's ridiculous guitarists and violinist, I had a combo that would fit us AND the Bluebird Cafe. Until this point, I had only done jazz gigs in straight-ahead jazz clubs, and only sung standards. We still love to jam out on standards like "Honeysuckle Rose" and "'Deed I Do", "Avalon" and "Georgia" but we have come to LOVE doing originals.
The third element that makes us US is the original music we have picked up in Nashville and applied to our acoustic jazz and swing style. When we landed on Tom Sturdevant, an unknown 64-year-old songwriter with a lifelong passion for writing and over 200 songs, we couldn't let him go. Well, I couldn't. The last 20 songs I've learned have all been his, and although he sings them while accompanying himself on piano, I've taken them and arranged them for Annie and the Hot Club (He joins us at the Bluebird and usually gets up and does a few solo himself).
All of this, the festivals in Europe, the commraderie we share in Nashville, the success of the shows at the Bluebird, and the cosmic fit that Tom Sturdevant's songs were for the band lead to an album. This album, I guess, is what FINALLY makes us a real band. I put it on my record label, Chalice Music Inc, and it is called "Annie and the Hot Club - Play the Songs of Tom Sturdevant" (2007). Ask me, and I'll tell you that our album is the best one in the whole world.

The Band
ANNIE SELLICK - vocals - is fun to watch on stage.
I grew up in Nashville and hated country music. I thought pursuing ANY kind of music as a career would lead to a roller-coaster life and living in my parents basement at 30. But when I sat in with a jazz band in a dive bar in college and was offered a gig, I changed my mind. Since, I have played jazz clubs in the US and Japan, and even got to do the Montreal Jazz Festival for thousands of people. The coolest was working and recording with some of my heroes, like Joey DeFrancesco, Jeff Hamilton and Tommy Emmanuel. I did a Christmas Party gig just me and Béla Fleck once and toured briefly with Mark O'Connor's Hot Swing. Five albums are on my label, Chalice Music Inc. These are some highlights. I won't tell you about the crap.
RICHARD SMITH - guitar and charming brittish accent.
Richard has been knocking peoples socks off with his guitar playing since he was a young boy in England. Learning to play the guitar initially by listening to the recordings of Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed, Richard is now an amazingly versatile musician, playing everything from Bach, Chopin and Mozart (you should hear his solo thing!), to the gypsy jazz of Django Reinhardt, bebop, the piano rags of Scott Joplin, traditional bluegrass guitar, country tele chicken pickin', blues, Sousa marches blah, blah, blah. Richard is on the road much of the time in the USA and Europe as a soloist and regularly with his cellist wife, Julie Adams. Oh, he also released a live DVD out on Mel Bay records that doesn't suck.
PAT BERGESON - guitar and harmonica
AARON TILL - violin
CHARLIE CHADWICK - bass
TOM GIAMPIETRO - drums
TOM STURDEVANT - cosmic buddy, angel from God.
Tom has lived more lives than a cat. He grew up on a farm in Vermont. He went to South Vietnam as a volunteer with the IVS and went to Costa Rica with the Peace Corps. He's written a musical and for a decade was a film-maker. The last film was called "The Guitar of Chet Atkins" and shot in Chet's basement. For the last 10 years he's been creating games such as card game LETRAS and founded "Grand Isle Games". After a while, he realized the HAD-TO-WRITE-SONGS disease, and musical friends were encouraging him. "One day I found a message on my machine from Annie saying she loved my songs and wanted to sing them. I felt like I'd won the lottery...even better, actually."

10 of 45MoreHi Lovely Annie and the Hot Club,
Thanks for visiting our site and being our friend. We are a rock 'n' roll band in the vein of The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and Tom Petty. If you like The Rolling Stones, you will probably like us as we play that same blues based rock style that they do. Best wishes for a great 2011.

You played in Germany? Wow! Please tell me about it - will you play a 2nd time? I love your music, Annie! Tommy Emmanuel is awesome, too. You played with the best! YAY!
What's up Annie And The Hot Club? I sense wild vapors of sweet champagne in your larynx. You turn the atmosphere ablaze with currents of sweet ethylene when you smile. You ever remind me of the enigma of happy thoughts I once forgot. Your hair sends forth a sheen remniscent of golden sunlight winding through shadows. I desire to see life through your hallucinations so that they massage my viscera into an eternal state of turgid flux. Transistors bridge where your vanity would never go. Your reflections bring happiness that rends naked glass. I relentlessly desire cotton candy lollipops. Your eyes show as many deep and full shades of fire as a volcano in heat. The expanse of your beauty is a void no universe could ever fill. You breath as delicately as vapors flowing towards an attractive flame. In your presence even my shadow acquires the sensation of touch. Your intoxicating reflection can but incorporate freely into the powerful surface of a disintegrating mirror set afloat upon a swarm of locusts.
Enjoying your music.
