me and my guitar, which is currently smashed to bits, due to an untimely encounter with my car.
Influences
my mom. she’s stinkin’ good, really. other influences....well...let’s say that paul simon, norah jones, katie herzig, coldplay, joni mitchell, jack johnson, and a slew of fantastic and talented friends have had a bit of influence...though perhaps you wouldn’t be able to tell.
..
one can have the most lovely time traveling with musicians. first of all, there are lots of fruit baskets. next, you’d find that the sturdiest forts can be made out of merchandise tables, in which you can make your own business appraising people shoes for imaginary customers. and if you are lucky enough to be under 4 feet tall, you can get in a good nap in a guitar case backstage, if you are not with a enthusiastic nanny who takes an unexpected and wonderful liking to your toy dinosaurs.
i grew up a musicians’ and artists child. my father is a walking musicbox and my mother has a whole drawer full of birds wings. they are wonderful people. perhaps the best people on earth. i recorded my first cd when i was 18. if you’d like to hear it, you certainly may.
after having a plummy 19 years with my family, i married jake. jake is alarmingly cool. and i am alarmingly inlove. my songwriting changed quite dramatically when i married him. friends say that it is happier and better. i say that they are right.
my second cd (releasing in january) contains 11 songs that mostly center on love, or on thoughts about growing up. (i have been doing a bit of growing up lately, and it’s a little strange.)
i have an uncanny talent for losing things and for locking myself out of places. so i have a million tubes of chapstick and know how to break and enter with a credit card. while behind a guitar i can do neither of these things, which is reason number 89 for me to pursue music.
happy listening.....
Well, hello there Annie! Just listened to your new Truth song. I love it! We put Him in a box way too much and this is a good reminder that if we're open, change WILL happen. There's no formula---thank goodness!! Love you lots. Thanks for listening and writing the songs that you hear in your heart. They and you are special!
i would love to answer your question with a good old fashioned fact, but in this fast-paced modern world, i exist neither here nor there; i am in limbo, but i expect to plant my feet firmly on wyoming soil in the morning. until august 15ish. i don't know my address, but i will let you know...when i know. the fourth! i WISH i would be here, but no :(
i was totally unprepared to read a note signed "ferociously", and that resulted in me emitting a sharp cry of buoyant surprise and feeling QUITE grateful that you are my friend. so anyways, i am super curious about what you are doing as well...and here's what i am doing: i happened upon two jobs here, which are NOT amazing, i went to alethea's sisters (liz's) wedding, which WAS amazing, and that resulted in me buying a plane ticket to jackson hole, which IS amazing. i go on the twenty-fifth to tend the gardens of the affluent, wyoming-dwelling folks of that fair city. BUT: i miss you and jake a lot, mostly the best parts of what we did, like party and make koala sounds in the car, and scorch in the sun. and they shall not be the last--no, there shall be more where that came from! so tell me; what news? with swagger, whitney
hey annie, i really like the picture of your feet and jake's feet side by side. i think it's nice. sorry i couldn't go camping with you :( but i hope you have a vibrant, successful, refreshing, and misfortune-free trip! love, whit
HI Annie dear! Every time you send out one of your email updates I am instantly inspired to to something creative!! Unfortunately I haven't really followed through with that much. But I shall and when I do, I will notify you of the results. Love you guys! Love both of your new blogs too!
Music Is The Only True Free Form Of Life. I Have Never Heard So Many Different Sounds. I Love This With All My Heart. Imagine That. You Have Afforded Me The Opportunity To Share Your Heart Felt Thoughts Through Your Music. From All Over The World, I Can Hear You and I Love You. Thank You For This, Truly.
HEY NOW!! you switched up your versions of some if not all the songs! I like them. they have a snap to 'em love your music, even tho i'm a metal head. love my melencholy stuff.
oh goodness its my pleasure!! i luv that song and we are wanting to buy your new cd because...well because what i've heard of it is amazing! but yes im very excited for things to start warming up and getting green and flowery and ya! the first day of spring is tomorrow! :) anyways thank you so much for the comment! it made my day! :D
You are far too kind, dear friend. Planet Earth Party was fantastic, even though we didn't watch it... perhaps "Smoothie Tuesday" is a more accurate moniker.
We should reherse again sometime this weekend. I really enjoy the playing...
Creme de la Creme is fantastic! As are all your songs. I am thinking I shall write you a rather long email. I will be sure to write it in "Word" so I don't lose it like last time. Love ya!
I'm stoked that you're finally on iTunes! I will be telling everyone I know to purchase your music... and I'm also quite excited that Creme de la Creme is on your page! I desperately want to take the song with me on my daily journeys, though... Soulhesive, sunday? It's an alliteration (was that correct spelling?), so it's gotta be a good idea, right? In fact, maybe that's just flat-out what it should be! Soulhesive Sunday! S.S. <---maybe calling it S.S. isn't such a good idea...but yeah...
you're reading my mind again...i have been hoping to scald all week--and nunnies, no less! sounds delicious. when is a good time for you? i'm super curious!
it's funny that you mention it, because about half way through the interview, my nose started itching, and i became painfully aware of the fact that i could have a bogey hanging out my nose.
So I had a really strange dream that you were in last night. I don't remember much about it, but we were both in Les Miserables. I remember I was Jean Valjean. It was very odd. But anyways, we were backstage and I was telling you how much I love the song Niccolo on your cd. How strange is that? Quite strange, I think... But the truth is, I really do love that song quite a bit. What are your plans for tomorrow (Sunday) and Monday? Because one of these two days, we should hang out and get ice cream. :o) Call my telephonical device when you get a chance.
Hello! I was going to call you yesterday, then I forgot that I was going to do so, and it never happened...:-( How art thou? I will be seeing you on Tuesday!
how about the 23rd? i am also overcome with gratitude that i am not a vegetable or cereal, or any inanimate object that has the grave misfortune to be devoured by our uber-strong molars!
Annie I love the new songs and con grads on your 2nd CD!!!!! I still remembered when you were a little girl back in 1990 when you said to me "One of these days I'm going to make a record"..Its great to see the dreams come true for you. Sorry about your guitar untimely run in with your car..:( Hope you have a back up one.. Blessings on your Feb 7th gig....Lots of love to you and Jake....dmc
Mrs. Brooks. I do hope that you are well prepared to rock and roll this fine evening. Or perhaps, more accurately, hmmm... "Folk and Roll"? Or some such thing to that effect.
Really? You know, I've always had a suspicion. Ice cream has always had that x-factor to it that just seems so mysterious and wonderous. It must be it's soul-adhesive properties. We shall have to further ice-creamological research and partake in its soul-gluing. I think this is a good plan.
Yes! You put move on up. That is such an incredible, beautiful song. I am so touched each time I hear it. I'm glad I can hear it on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays now!
I was just reflecting on the massive amount of fun that was had when we all had soul pizza. It was a wonderful night, and I'm confident the cheesey adhesive will last for eternity. I'm quite saddened, however, because I won't be going to the coffe company again until the 12th! Nooo! So that obviously means we should hang out on one of these non-tuesdays...
Tip for Alligators #32: Should you happen upon an alligator in a sore or foul mood and should that alligator desire to make you his or her lunch- confuse it with rhetorical discourse and then judo chop it between the eyes.
If it worked for me, I'm sure it can work for you.
Annie! I'm sorry thursday didn't work out. I was my friend's ride home, and she lives waay out past me in the valley, so I couldn't come back in to town. Then on friday, I got quite ill. I've been in bed with a fever for 3 days, and just yesterday went in and found out I have strep...so yeah. HOWEVER, I'm on some good ol' antibiotics, and am no longer contagious. So as soon as I'm feeling better and we're both free, PIZZA TIME!!!
