Just me - I am a violinist, composer and improviser, interested in playing music of different genres in live performances and as a session player. Mostly, I play gigs with other people. You can see who they are in my gigs list and there is a bit more info regarding what I am up to in my current projects section. I'm always interested to meet collaborators who want to create new work with me. I am into doing all kinds of projects so please send me a message if you are interested (and preferably local!) I also do session and function work playing any styles - classical, rock, experimental, jazz, folk, soundscapes............

Sounds Like
Sounds like me! Could be a clear and powerful classical sound, or an oddly lilting folk melody with dips and dives, or maybe something with energetic rhythmic drive, dancing percussive sounds, or strange, more abstract soundworlds, possibly created in the moment.........
I am a violinist, composer and improviser. I also play piano (and can sometimes be persuaded to play viola if I am in the right mood) and am interested in exploring different soundworlds in whatever music I am playing. I am classically trained, but began improvising as a child. This mix has always fuelled my playing and composing. It is also the inspiration behind the teaching sessions I offer and the workshops that I occasionally organize. I have worked with many musicians playing music of different genres both as a band member and as a session player here in Brighton and in London. This has included playing gigs as a solo player, in string sections for bands, orchestras, folk rock bands, string quartets, singer songwriter duos, in a barn dance band, in improv groups and in lots of situations from Christenings and memorial services to busking on street corners, exhibition openings and studio work.

In August 07, I released a solo violin album called 'Wood and wire'. The album has a mix of melodic and more experimental work on it and comes in handmade recycled card packaging. Each cover is slightly different. You can read track notes in my blog. It has proved frustratingly impossible for me to set up a pay online link with this page. So, if you would like to buy an album, please e mail me as I still have some CDs left. It is also available at all my gigs. I have put 2 tracks from it on the music player, just as a bit of a taster and to show the kind of soundworlds I have been exploring. These are track 1 - Grit and track 6 - Dog miles. All tracks on the music player are played and composed by me on violin using multi tracks and effects, with the exception of track 3 - Oct 11, which is a little bit of magic from when Richard Brincklow and I recorded some of our jamming.

CURRENT PROJECTS - I am a member of Brighton's Safehouse Collective which is a platform for exploring free improvisation and experimental music.
I also play with John the Savage who mix contemporary classical, jazz and electronica into a cinematic blend. You can hear two of the tracks we have worked on together - Hoser and Bouncing Ball - on the JTS page.
I am currently working on my solo material and on building interesting sets that combine composed and improvised elements.
And there are other new projects developing as well. Watch this space!
