Ann Podolske's Comedian Bio
|
| Bio | Came to comedy later in life (around 44), as I do with most things, but as George Eliot said, "You are never too old to be what you might have been."
That "Understated, but lethal wit" tag came from a review of my one and only appearance with the Laughing Liberally troupe in Boston (at the wonderful, if now defunct, Jimmy Tingles Off-Broadway in Somerville). Have performed in a ridiculous array of venues in New England as well as New York City and Washington, D.C., usually to appreciative crowds (the ladies in the Alzheimer's ward and the guys at the Elks Club notwithstanding). My work addresses all sorts of things, including my:
Misspent youth--you have no idea how misspent, but to give you an inkling, I thought I was a straight girl until my early 30s.
Midwestern roots--they are always showing, alas.
Misadventures as a Peace Corps volunteer--I was a "straight" girl with long, blonde hair and a drinking problem...in Morocco.
Musings on gay marriage, homophobia, and the Red Sox--they’re all connected, believe it!
Am hoping MySpace will help me kick the ol’ comedy career up a notch, but of course, I may be fooling myself--neither the first time, nor the last. That said, I am firmly of the "Hey, you never know" school. So here goes.... | | Website | apodolske.blogspot.com/ | | Influences | Jack Benny, Laurel and Hardy, W.C. Fields, Burns and Allen, Dorothy Parker, Johnny Carson, everyone on "Laugh-In," Carol Burnett, Bob Newhart, George Carlin, Richard Pryor, Gilda Radner, Paula Poundstone, Ellen Degeneres, Chris Rock, Margaret Cho, and everyone I’ve seen at The Comedy Studio, especially the inimitable Rick Jenkins. |

Ann Podolske's Blurbs |
About me:
I'm very Midwestern; there's nothing to be done about that. Also a big fan of dogs and their people (as a rule). In fact, life without a dog would be unimaginable--ditto life without ice cream. Speaking of dog people, my gal Linda and I have been together since '92, and I expect we'll end our days at the local Lavender Ladies Home. Used to be a Democrat, when that meant something, but now, I'd have to say I'm Disappointed. Rather enjoy working, most of the time, and enjoy The Comedy all of the time (unless the comic is engaged in gay-, woman-, or minority-bashing of some sort...that's just sad).

Who I'd like to meet:
Mary J. Blige. Eleanor Roosevelt (as likely). Mary Louise Parker. George Clooney. Al Gore.
