another bandname puts pop music where it should be: on the edge. Their music incorporates pure noise, sheer nervousness and large amounts of quirkiness. The sound they produce isn’t entirely new – in fact: it’s been around for thirty years. The late seventies and early eighties saw the birth of groups like Wire and The Feelies. These groups tried to express something that was loathed by most of the punk scene: bouncy intelligence. They recognized the fact that you could take a pop song anywhere as long as it possessed some kind of melody – instead of making the song some kind of vehicle for half-harted political sentiments. As time progressed, most of the punk records gathered dust – but the stamina of groups like Wire was never in doubt.

Nowadays the pop landscape is totally shattered. There isn’t one leading trend – anything goes. Boredom is a well-seen guest in pop music nowadays. The punch line goes like this: everything’s done – why make an effort?

Needless to say that the sentence above is often quoted by groovy hipsters. Fortunately enough there isn’t a single member in another bandname that has some kind of X-factor. You could easily buy a second hand-car from each one of them – they look that reliable.

Although they possess a honest appearance – they sound like a bunch of psychotics. Where other popgroups tend to focus on the image, another bandname simply “forgets” their image – all their energy (loads of energy) is expressed in their music. It’s not about looking good, it’s about sounding just that little different – without being a freaked out free-jazz combo. It’s about reviving up pop music – pushing it straight into the red zone.

It was earlier mentioned: they just aren’t the new brads in town. There’s no pose – it’s simply believing in pop music.

Het verhaal van de strijd tegen (muziek)windmolens wordt anno 2007 geschreven door ene Thomas, Reinout & Merijn. Wars van enige "Destined for fame"-pathetiek, jagen ze hoekige en drukke stadsgeluiden door de versterkers heen. Hun geluid is geënt op de takken van orginator Captain Beefheart, maar dan in een kruisbestuiving met een fris-van-de-lever punkattitude. Oude muziek voor jonge mensen. Zo lijkt het alsof Merijn en zijn bas in een zenuwslopende liaison dangereuse verwikkeld zijn, terwijl Reinout het geluid evoceert van een batterij Detroit-autofabrieken: knetterend druk, maar onweerstaanbaar oorprikkelend.

Welke katten tekstueel gegeseld worden door Thomas, blijft waarschijnlijk voor de meest doorwrochte Bob Dylan-exegeet een schier onmogelijke vraag. Betreft het baarlijke nonsens of een muzikale weergave van een immer verwonderde geest? Horen is geloven.

Net zoals The Jam en Hüsker Dü (niet toevallig betreft het hier tevens trio's) huist er een ongekende explosiviteit binnen another bandname. Het soort explosiviteit waardoor je met jeukende vingers de treble-knop van je stereoketen steeds hoger schuift. Nervositeit klonk zelden zo spannend anno 2007 te Lembeke.
