Brief History of Alpha Nu Omega, Incorporated & The Ever-Great Empire State
The Purpose of Alpha Nu Omega, Incorporated is to present a Christian alternative on college/university campuses and in surrounding communities, to minister the needs of the whole person (spirit, soul, and body) and to promote an attitude of academic excellence.
“In 1985, God, the Holy Spirit gave Evangelist Shirley K. Russell (a God fearing woman and mathematics instructor at Morgan Sate University – Baltimore, MD) a vision for a Christian Fraternity and Sorority.” Two distinct entities but they are governed by one constitution with Jesus Christ as their firm foundation. Through the obedience and guidance of Evangelist Russell, Alpha Nu Omega, Inc. has increased in membership as well as national expansion to areas such as Florida, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Indiana, New Jersey, Tennessee, Washington, D.C., Delaware, and Maryland.
In the spring of 2006, the New York Alumni Sorority of Alpha Nu Omega Inc. was chartered, thus creating the Empire State Region. It began with five remarkable women of God who labored in carrying out the vision of Evangelist Russell. Under the leadership of, the Regional Director of Ministry and Administration, Terri O. Cann, the membership has increased by four times the original size; consisting of the undergrad fraternity, the alumni fraternity, the undergrad sorority (all three chartered in Summer 2007), and the alumni sorority. The undergrad fraternity and sorority focus on ministry throughout the campuses while the alumni focus on ministry throughout the community as well as showing continual support for each other.
