I JOINED MYSPACE TO EXPAND THE IDEAS I FEEL STRONGLY ABOUT. For nine years, I've focused on building a resource where dancers can nourish something they care about: THE DESIRE TO DANCE FOR A LIVING. Thanks to support from many colleagues, realistic tools for satisfying dance careers are very much alive on ANSWERS4DANCES.COM.
About me: Spontaneous decisions are my cup of tea. The one I made in 1944 set in motion a lifetime of doing what I love. Saying "yes" to a neighbor's request led me to become a dancer. For 62 years, I've experienced the benefits making one spontaneous decision at the age of nine.
It happened on a hot summer afternoon in McKeesport, PA. I remember everything about it except the neighbor's name. There was nothing to do that day except sit on the steps that led to a dirt road. The smell of freshly-sprayed tar on the road is as vivid as ever.
The neighbor lady in a flowered apron approached with a smile. "Grover," she said, "I'd like to make you an offer. If you take my son, Jimmy, downtown to Cecille Senko's School Of Dance every Saturday for a tap class, I'll pay for you to take the class as well..."
"A tap class?" The only thought that ran through my mind was "a free anything sounds good to me...." I nodded, "Sure, I'll do it."
Two months later, Jimmy dropped out of the class but I had discovered something I was good at and wasn't about to let anything that wonderful get away from me. No sir. I stuck with it, paying for the class by selling magazines in the neighborhood. What a long time ago that was. I wonder if that neighbor lady ever realized she was launching a kid on a path that would last the rest of his life (?) "

Robin Dunn (pictured below), has been teaching at The Ailey Extension since its inception in 2005. Each week her classes are full of dance enthusiasts who enjoy learning from Robin. Students attribute their loyalty to her personable and inspirational teaching style. Robin begins each class with a three-minute 'meditation' period to encourage students to relax and release the stress from their days. Then, Robin takes her classes through the history of hip hop as a well as movement. She makes sure she gets to know each student and provide individualized attention. She encourages each student to give their 'all' and motivates them to perform better and stronger with each movement.
In addition to teaching at The Ailey Extension, Robin is a respected instructor at The Ailey School, Steps on Broadway and Hunter College. She is also an accomplished choreographer and dancer, having worked with a number of recording artists including Raven Symone, Missy Elliott, Heather Headley and Sean Kingston. Robin has also appeared in a number of Off-Broadway and Dinner Theater productions and has worked in production for the world famous Apollo Theater and Saturday Night Live.
Robin also developed the F.A.C.E. Method (Focus, Attitude, Confidence, Energy and Eye Contact), to help artists and business professionals tap their inner power and be more confident on stage and in the workplace. In 2006 and 2007, Robin presented her patented method to over 2,000 business professionals in Moscow, where both she and her program were received with rave reviews. For six weeks, from October 5- November 9, 2008, Robin will bring this groundbreaking method to The Ailey Extension.
