Antarctica Records was founded as a vehicle to bring music into the world which would otherwise not exist in the public marketplace. Additionally our aim is to provide talented artists access to state-of-the-art recording technologies and audiences beyond their geographic region.
The musical relationships generated by Antarctica Records reflect our philosophy of bringing together musicians who share a passion for music in general, rather than following specific trends or putting popularity and monetary considerations above the music. Antarctica Records continues to move forward, with new artists to discover, new ways of recording, and new methods of bringing music to the public.
Why the name? For many years Antarctica Records founder John Trevethan has had an ongoing fascination with the mysterious continent at the bottom of the world. He originally used Antarctica as the name for his ambient, world-influenced band which later became Poleshift.
Next, during the period of 1999-2000 John and his wife Brenda owned Antarctica Studios, a multi-functional facility featuring a high-end ProTools recording studio, CD mastering suite, graphic & web design department, digital art gallery and an online independent label. Antarctica Studios hosted several interesting projects including a Q&A session held by King Crimson's Robert Fripp on Jan 16th, 2000.
