Antecedent Death - Life-Size Concrete Death Masks by Tom Gabriel Fischer
I cast each death mask individually by hand from a mould of my face made in New York in May 2007 by Josh Turi (special makeup effects artist), Tom Denier, Jr. (special makeup effects artist), and Eli Livingston (sculptor for, among others, HR Giger).
Unless noted otherwise, all death masks are cast from concrete and mounted on an anodized black aluminum frame. Cement mixture and weight vary slightly from mask to mask. Each death mask is primed and painted individually by hand using a variety of washes and oil, enamel, or acrylic paints. Each death mask is individually labeled, numbered, and signed; each death mask is a unique piece of art, and no two death masks are alike. Each death mask is shipped with a signed certificate of authenticity.
The death masks measure approximately 15 cm x 24 cm (6" x 10") unframed, and 24 cm x 33 cm (10" x 13") framed. The weight of a death mask with frame is approximately 3 kg (6.66 lb).
